UEFA President opens up on plan to ban Manchester City from Champions League

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin has vowed the governing body will not shy away from sanctions against the big clubs including Manchester City amid fears of a ban from the Champions League.

City have been under investigation by a regulatory committee over a series of leaks into their financial conduct published in German outlet Der Spiegel.

Reports last week suggested City may face a Champions League ban if found guilty with UEFA referring the case to Club Financial Control Body adjudicatory chamber.

City have dismissed any wrongdoing and branded the accusations “entirely false”, maintaining their hope of a positive outcome.

The investigation is set to rumble on for weeks if not months and while Ceferin refused to comment on the individual case, he insists UEFA will have no qualms about coming down hard on any club, report the Daily Mirror.

“Sometimes we forget how dirty this industry is,” Ceferin told the New York Times.

City were fined and hit with a restriction on transfer spending after an initial breach in 2014 while PSG’s dealings have also been investigated.

There have been fears European heavyweights such as City and PSG would manage to avoid a heavy sanction, while lesser names wouldn’t be as fortunate.

But Ceferin added: “If you do it right, you don’t sell yourself.

“If you are not involved in any strange business, if you are not corrupted, then you go straight forward and be fair to anyone.”

La Liga president launches attack on Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain

La Liga president Javier Tebas has launched fresh attack on Premier League champions Manchester City and Lique 1 winners PSG, calling them “state run clubs”.

The Spanish top flight supremo had been a surprise leading candidate to replace Richard Scudamore as Premier League chief executive, but he has now ruled it out.

In addition, Tebas blasted ‘state run’ City and their ‘petrol money and gas money’ in signing new players, which is ‘massively damaging’ for European football.

“No, I am very happy in Spain,” Tebas said when asked about the links to England.

“I really think the person in the post Scudamore was fantastic chief exec. He was doing a great job.’

“Clubs should get their income out of revenue they generate. The problem with City and PSG is they are state run clubs. It means if they want to sign a player, petrol money and gas money.

“The damage is massive for European football. They are inflating the market to the extent other clubs have to spend ludicrous money to keep their main players. Juventus, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich…they need to make prices higher so state funded clubs don’t snatch players.”

Antonio Conte wins compensation battle, Chelsea ordered to pay Italian £9m

Chelsea have lost their £9m compensation battle with former boss Antonio Conte, and therefore ordered to pay the Italian

In another blow for the Stamford Bridge outfit, a Premier League arbitration tribunal ruled in Conte’s favour after a 12-month spat.

The Times reports a Premier League managers’ arbitration tribunal ruled in favour of Conte.

However, the case may end up in the High Court if Chelsea refuse to accept the judgment.

The Blues sacked the Italian last summer, a year before his contract was due to expire, but his lawyers argued he was entitled to a £9m (€10.3m) payoff, unless he takes another job.

The club, on the other hand, felt the 49-year-old’s behaviour saw him breach the terms of his employment after he fell out with the likes of Diego Costa.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has shelled out more than £70m (€80m) on compensation for sacked Coaches since buying the Londoners in 2003.

Arsenal threaten Mesut ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, five others

Reports in England state that Arsenal have threatened to sell any player who goes into the last two years of his contract and not ready to sign new contract at the club.

This development came as the Gunners unveiled a new transfer policy in a bid to stop players running down their contracts after seeing the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Danny Welbeck, Alexis Sanchez and Jack Wilshere leave without receiving a fee.

Managing director Vinai Venkatesham says the club must do more to avoid those situations in the future, and has given a clear ultimatum to players with two years left on their deals that they either renew or they will be sold, report the Daily Mail.

That means a busy summer of transfer negotiations with eight players having two years remaining on their current deals including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Laurent Koscielny.

Venkatesham has hinted that the club will need to be creative in the market. He told the club website: ‘When we are selling players we need to maximise the funds we get to reinvest in the team.

‘We need to be really disciplined when we are dealing with senior players who are not towards the end of their careers.

‘So that means we have to start making the difficult decisions when they have two years left on the contracts. We’re either going to renew those contracts or we’re going to be selling them.

‘We’re going to have to be brave in those decisions because we can’t be in a situation where we’re allowing players to walk out of the door for free unless they are coming towards the end of their careers.’

Five million Real Madrid fans release list of first-team players they want out of Bernabeu

Reports in Spain confirm Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos, Marcelo and Isco are among the stars who should leave Real Madrid this summer.

According to Diario AS, the poll was voted on by nearly five million Madrid fans and the results showed that the supporters wanted as many as eight first-team squad members to leave the club.

Kroos – who signed a new contract on Monday until 2023 – was among the names on the list, while long-serving stalwarts such as Welsh forward Bale and Brazilian full-back Marcelo were also named.

Playmaker Isco was another high-profile potential casualty, while Spanish youngsters Dani Ceballos and Jesus Vallejo should also go, according to the survey.

Forward Mariano Diaz – who returned to Los Blancos last summer from Olympique Lyonnais – and goalkeeper Luca Zidane, son of Coach Zinedine, were also on the list, report Football Espana.

The poll conducted by the Madrid-based daily was simple: “Who should go and who should not?”

Bale received the lowest level of support with just 9 percent of respondents offering their support while Mariano and Luca were the other two without much support.

The results were inconclusive on Casemiro, Marco Asensio, Marcos Llorente, Fede Valverde and Lucas Vazquez – with 50-50 levels of support for those players.

Dani Carvajal (92 percent) had the highest approval rating with Vinicius (89), Brahim Diaz (83), Sergio Ramos (84), Keylor Navas (76) and Sergio Reguilon (81) also ranking highly.

Fastest Premier League player REVEALED as Manchester City star loses crown

Reports in England have revealed the fastest player in the Premier League this season, and his identity is someone you would least expect.

Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah endured a miserable loan spell at Fulham, but he at least has something to show for his time in west London.

According to the Daily Mail, the 21-year-old hit a top speed in 2018-19 that just eclipsed Manchester City’s Kyle Walker, despite making only 12 appearances.

The Dutch international reached 35.32 km/h, ahead of Walker’s 35.27 km/h.

Another unlikely name completes the podium places, with Wolves’ Ruben Vinagre clocking in at 35.2 km/h.

Leroy Sane and DeAndre Yedlin make up the rest of the top five fastest players.

Gerard Deulofeu, Felipe Anderson, Divock Origi and Patrick van Aanholt are in the top 10 – and so too is Fulham goalkeeper Sergio Rico.

Rico has somehow recorded a faster pace this season than Mohamed Salah, who could not break past a top speed of 34.95 km/h.

Whether Fosu-Mensah’s speed-gun shattering time is enough to give him a future at Old Trafford remains to be seen.

He has spent the last two years on loan, and made 24 appearances for Crystal Palace last season.

He has not played for United since the 2016-17 campaign.

Borussia Dortmund close in on Barcelona star amid reports Nou Camp club want to recoup fee

There are reports Borussia Dortmund want to sign Barcelona winger Malcom this summer to replace the outgoing Cristian Pulisic.

The 22-year-old has started just six La Liga games (three of which have come after the league title was secured) since a €41m summer switch from Bordeaux, and has also been linked with a move to both Milan and Inter.

Football Espana reveal that Barca boss Ernesto Valverde did not give the green light to Malcom’s arrival last year and he does not plan to give him a prominent role in his squad.

According to Diario Sport, the Blaugrana are willing to recoup the summer fee they spent on the winger last summer – terms which are agreeable to Dortmund.

The Brazilian was set to join Roma last summer from the French club before the Blaugrana moved at the eleventh hour to steal the deal.

English trio Everton, Tottenham and Arsenal have previously been linked to a deal while there have also been reports in the Spanish press that there is interest from the Chinese Super League.

Serie A club offer Manchester United player-plus-cash for Romelu Lukaku

Reports in Italy claim Inter Milan are ready to offer Ivan Perisic plus €20-30m in exchange for Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku.

Their pursuit of Lukaku is no secret, especially with Antonio Conte agreeing terms to replace Coach Luciano Spalletti at San Siro next season, report Football Italia.

A new striker is required, as Mauro Icardi is on the market following months of in-fighting and the fans turning against him.

According to FCInterNews.it, agent Federico Pastorello is working on mediating a deal between the two clubs that would suit everyone.

This is represented by Perisic plus €20-30m in cash, meeting the valuation of Belgium international Lukaku at €60-70m.

Perisic had pushed hard for a January move to Arsenal, but was convinced to remain with the promise he could go to England at the end of the season.

Manchester United had tried to purchase Perisic in the past and are still on the look-out for wingers.

As for Lukaku, he is discussing a five-year contract with Inter worth €7.5m per year plus bonuses.
