Eden Hazard confirms he’s leaving Chelsea after winning Europa League trophy

Chelsea talisman Eden Hazard says “I think this is goodbye” to the Stamford Bridge club after the club won the Europa League trophy in Baku.

The Belgium international scored a brace to help Chelsea win the trophy with 4-1 scoreline against Arsenal.

Hazard has been linked with a move to Real Madrid especially with Zinedine Zidane’s return to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“I think for the fans, for the boys, for the manager, for the staff, this is a great trophy to win,” he told BT.

“I don’t know yet [where my future lies] I think it will be decided in a few days. My target today was to win the trophy that’s it. That was the only thing in my mind.

“I took my decision already. I say that two weeks ago. Now it’s depending on the club. Both clubs. I’m just waiting. We will see. We will know in a couple of days.

“I think it’s a goodbye. But in football you never know. My dream was to play in the Premier League and I did this for seven years for one of the biggest clubs in the world. Maybe it’s time for a new challenge.”

Earlier in the week Los Blancos Florentino Perez said he ‘has a feeling’ that the Chelsea playmaker will join the club this summer.

“I have a feeling that Eden Hazard will be coming this year,” Perez told an interview on Onda Cero on Monday night.

“I am very interested in him coming to Real Madrid and I am very hopeful he will come in. He is one of the greats of the world of football.”

“How are we going to talk to a club that is playing a final (the Europa League), we have been trying for several years that Hazard is a Madrid player but we have not yet achieved it.”

Napoli fans tell Maurizio Sarri not to sign for Juventus

Napoli fans have put up a banner outside Maurizio Sarri’s home, warning the Chelsea boss not to ‘betray’ them by joining Juventus.

The Partenopei are the main rivals of the Old Lady in Serie A as their encounters always generate a lot of heat.

Sarri is the heavy favourite to replace Max Allegri at Juve, but a group of Napoli supporters, according to Football Italia, took to the Coach’s residence in Tuscany to issue him with a message.

“Boss, don’t betray your people. Naples loves you,” read the banner.

The 60-year-old was born in Naples and coached the Partenopei between 2015 and 2018, leading them to two runners-up finishes in Serie A.

Sarri was beloved by the fans, but left after disagreements with Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis, although he could be coming back to Serie A for their arch-rivals Juve.

De Laurentiis said recently he “would not be surprised” if Sarri joined Juventus. “Nothing surprises me after Gonzalo Higuain…”

His words:“I would not be surprised,” he answered. “Nothing surprises me after what happened with Higuain… In fact, it might be amusing.”

Chelsea put Arsenal to the sword, lift Europa League trophy in Baku (Match Report)

Maurizio Sarri has won the first trophy of his management career, as Chelsea crushed Arsenal 4-1 in Baku to lift the Europa League.

There was a big surprise in the starting XI, as Sarri chose to risk N’Golo Kante just days after a knee sprain in training, as he was already missing the likes of Antonio Rudiger and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Alexandre Lacazette seemed to go looking for contact with Kepa and went down too easily, so Italian referee Gianluca Rocchi and Massimiliano Irrati in the VAR booth waved play on.

Granit Xhaka’s screamer from distance clipped the top of the crossbar, while Italy international Emerson Palmieri was Chelsea’s most dangerous player, one shot deflected wide and another stinging the goalkeeper’s gloves.

Sarri’s men improved as the half wore on and Petr Cech got down very well for a one-handed save on Olivier Giroud’s angled drive.

It was Giroud who opened the scoring straight after the restart with a diving header at the base of the near post on a low cross from Emerson, who continued to run riot down the left, anticipating Laurent Koscielny.

Arsenal poured forward to get back into it, but this left spaces open and Eden Hazard rolled across for Pedro to take it first time from 12 yards, scuffing it slightly into the far bottom corner. He became the first player ever to score in the Finals of the Champions League, European Super Cup and Europa League.

Maitland-Niles, who was the only English player starting the game between two London clubs, clumsily bundled into the back of Giroud for a penalty, which Hazard coolly converted.

However, Arsenal restored some hope with a spectacular half-volley from substitute Iwobi, gathering a poor clearance on the edge of the box.

It didn’t last long, because Emerson was involved again by winning back the ball from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as Hazard completed a give and go with Giroud to complete his brace, tearing the Gunners defence to shreds.

Hazard would’ve had a hat-trick if not for Cech’s save and the veteran goalkeeper also fingertipped a Willian effort round the post, while Cesar Azpilicueta skimmed the upright. Joe Willock curled just wide late on when springing the Chelsea offside trap.

This was a huge blow to Arsenal for two reasons, as not only did they miss out on the trophy, but they also failed to qualify for the Champions League and will be in the Europa League again next season.

Europa League Final Half-Time Report: Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal…Xhaka hits crossbar as Cech pulls fine save to deny Giroud

The two Premier League clubs ended the first half goalless, with both keepers forced into action in this Europa League final in Baku.

Chelsea have certainly had more control in the last 10 minutes or so, with Arsenal having had the better of proceedings before that.

Xhaka has hit the crossbar from range, while at the other end, Cech had to pull off a fine save to deny Giroud an opener in what has been a tightly contested encounter so far.

There is certainly plenty of room for improvement from both sides after the interval.

Sarri could perhaps urge his side to have a bit more conviction in attack, while Emery will need to find a way to get Ozil, Aubameyang and Lacazette more involved in the final third.

Inter Milan step up move for Romelu Lukaku, offer Manchester United striker five-year contract

Reports in England and Italy reveal that Inter Milan have stepped up their move for Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Serie A club have agreed a five-year contract with the 26-year-old worth €7.5m per year plus bonuses, but must work out a transfer fee with Manchester United.

The striker has therefore given the go-ahead after his representatives whittled down the details of personal terms.

Meanwhile, as reported by the Sun, Lukaku is willing to take a pay-cut in order to secure a move to Inter Milan.

The Belgium international had already been a main target for Antonio Conte at Chelsea last year and was one of the first requests made when the idea of replacing Luciano Spalletti came about.

Sport Mediaset claim Conte is already in Milan today, but Inter are holding off on announcing he is the new Coach as a sign of respect for Spalletti.

That is because the current tactician’s brother died this morning.

Lukaku has failed to win over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since the Norwegian succeeded Jose Mourinho in December, with Marcus Rashford often preferred in a central role.
