OFFICIAL: Juventus sign Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s prime target

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s key target Adrien Rabiot has been signed by by Juventus on free transfer.

Solskjaer reportedly wanted to add the France international as part of his rebuilding plans, and the club even tabled a deal worth around £9million a year with a £4.5m signing-on.

He was also the subject of interest from Tottenham and Barcelona, but excessive wage demands prevented a move for him in January.

Although Juve’s official statement did not mention the length of Rabiot’s contract, it is understood he has agreed a four-year contract worth €7m per season plus bonuses, with a €10m signing-on fee.

The Frenchman will be unveiled as the Bianconeri’s latest signing in the morning on Tuesday, report Football Italia.

The 24-year-old broke through for PSG in 2013 and went on to play 227 times for the French giants, scoring 25 goals, providing 20 assists and winning six Ligue 1 titles.

However, a contractual dispute saw him dropped from their first team in December.

Real Madrid and Chelsea have confirmed Mateo Kovacic’s permanent move to Stamford Bridge after a successful loan stint at the London club.

He made 51 appearances for Chelsea last season, 36 of them starts, playing primarily on the left of midfield in Maurizio Sarri’s 4-3-3 formation where he was an important supplier of passes to top goalscorer Eden Hazard.

Real Madrid said in a club statement: “The club wants to thank Kovacic for all these years of dedication, professionalism and exemplary behaviour, and wishes him good luck in his new stage.”

The 25-year-old contributed significantly to the Blues’ Europa League-winning campaign, starting in 10 of the 15 games, including the final in Baku, and making two further substitute appearances.

He was a standout performer against Arsenal in Azerbaijan and was involved in three of the goals in our 4-1 win.

Kovacic, who has signed a five-year contract, will be a member of Chelsea squad for 2019/20.

The midfielder said: ‘I really enjoyed my season on loan with Chelsea, I feel comfortable at the club and like London and the Premier League very much. I am very happy to be able to join permanently.

‘We had a successful year, winning the Europa League and I hope I can make a big contribution in the coming seasons.’

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia added: ‘Mateo proved what an accomplished player he is during his season on loan with us and we are delighted to welcome him to the club on a permanent basis.

Gonzalo Higuain, four others leave Chelsea

Chelsea have confirmed the departures of Gonzalo Higuain, Gary Cahill, Rob Green, Eduardo and Kyle Scott as their respective contracts ended on Sunday.

The London club passed on their £31.3m option to purchase Gonzalo Higuain with the Argentinian now returning to Juventus, where he has two years remaining on his contract.

Higuain joined the Blues in January under the insistence of Maurizio Sarri, with the manager desperate to sign the striker who equalled the Serie A scoring record under him at Napoli, but subsequently failed to rekindle that prolific form during his time in west London.

In total, Higuain made 18 appearances for Chelsea and scored seven goals before eventually losing his place to Olivier Giroud after a streak of sluggish performances.

Higuain made his Blues bow in an FA Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday, and opened his account with two superbly-taken goals the following weekend against struggling Huddersfield.

But Cahill departs Stamford Bridge as a winner after seven-and-a-half years of exemplary service during which time he won eight major trophies, most famously the Champions League in 2012 when he battled injury to play and star in Munich.

Club captain for the past two years, Cahill played 291 times for the Blues and scored 25 goals.
