Manchester United sink Inter Milan in International Champions Cup encounter (Watch video highlights & read match report)

Mason Greenwood goal was all Manchester United needed to defeat Inter Milan 1-0 in the International Champions Cup game.

Manchester United poured forward from the start and dominated possession, but Samir Handanovic held firm on Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, rushing off his line to intercept when the offside trap failed, his gloves stung by Paul Pogba from distance.

Inter were above all dangerous from set plays, as David De Gea completely flapped at two crosses to the back post, but Danilo D’Ambrosio was twice unable to take full advantage.

D’Ambrosio was decisive at the other end, performing a goal-line clearance to deny Jesse Lingard on the counter-attack after the restart.

Nemanja Matic saw his header thump the upright on a corner, then Handanovic at full stretch fingertipped a Pogba angled drive away, but Inter were again threatening from a dead-ball situation, as D’Ambrosio’s header was cleared off the line by Axel Tuanzebe.

The deadlock was finally broken from a set play, as Handanovic parried an Ashley Young free kick, but Mason Greenwood got on the end of the rebound, cut inside and curled into the far bottom corner from a tight angle.

Manchester United hit the woodwork again with Greenwood, who got in front of Andrea Ranocchia to meet a Chong cross from the left and clipped the crossbar with his volley.

Nicolò Barella made his Nerazzurri debut in the final minutes, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men were visibly in better shape at this early stage of pre-season.

Christian Pulisic rejects Eden Hazard comparison, opens up on replacement suggestions

Chelsea new boy Christian Pulisic has rejected suggestions he has been brought to Stamford Bridge as a replacement for Eden Hazard, saying he has arrived at the Blues as his “own player”.

The USA international was signed from Borussia Dortmund for £57.6m in January, but stayed at the German club until the end of the season.

Pulisic has now joined his new Chelsea team-mates for pre-season training, just weeks after Hazard moved to Real Madrid for a fee that could rise to £130m.

“I’m not here to compare or anything. Obviously Eden was amazing and he did so well for this club, as you could see last season and the whole time he’s been here. He was an incredible player,” Pulisic told Sky Sports.

“For me, it’s coming in as my own player, proving myself and doing the best I can to help this team.”

Lampard tells Everton about his decision over Kurt Zouma’s future, comments on Mason, Kenedy’s prospect at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has told Everton to forget signing Kurt Zouma, insisting he wants him to stay at Stamford Bridge and fight for a place this season.

Zouma played alongside David Luiz in central defence for the first half of a pre-season defeat against J-League champions Kawasaki Frontale on Friday.

The 24-year-old France international impressed on loan at Goodison Park last season and Lampard’s view will be a blow for Marco Silva who was keen to recruit him on a permanent basis, report the Daily Mail.

‘He’s a Chelsea player and I want him,’ said the new Chelsea manager.

‘Kurt Zouma is a very good defender for us, a very good player, a very good person, a professional and I want him here, simple as that.

‘We are competitive with the centre backs we have in the team and he had a very good season at Everton. I understand why they want him.

‘I want him to be happy. He’s working really hard and if he competes for a position and plays well this season he plays.

‘On Mason Mount? Mason is part of the first team squad this year,’ said Lampard.

‘This performance was really good, a continuation of the way he played for me last season.

‘His quality will improve. This was an early glimmer of we hope to see going forward.’

Kenedy, who has only one year remaining on his contract at Chelsea and was expected to leave this summer after 18 months on loan at Newcastle, was another who shone amid the disappointment.

‘If Kenedy continues to show this sort of attitude and play the way he played today he’s given a great case to stay and be part of the squad,’ said Lampard.

Zinedine Zidane reveals his dream for Eden Hazard as Real Madrid player

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has revealed his plan to drive Eden Hazard onto another level at Santiago Bernabeu.

The Belgian international joined Los Blancos for a club record €100m in June, after the 29-year old indicated he wanted to leave Chelsea ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.

Hazard spent seven seasons at Chelsea becoming a legend at Stamford Bridge in the process.

Real Madrid struggled to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo last summer when he moved to Juventus.

Zidane highlighted Hazard as one of his top priorities, after returning to the club in March, and the Frenchman expects his new star signing to have a big impact in the coming months.

“What Eden needed was a club like Madrid to improve,” he told Spanish daily AS.

“This club has something special and the players know it.

“I arrived at 29 years old and I still had a lot left.

“I spent five years in this club and I had a better time, I improved with 29 years.

“We know the player he is, we have how important he is going to be.”

Zidane also explained how Hazard can make a difference for Real Madrid ahead of the new season.

He added: “Hazard is a determined player, he makes a difference, it is very important in today’s football.

“He has shown it and now that he is here, we are going to take advantage of his qualities, he will give us a plus, for sure.”

Maurizio Sarri confirms interest in Paul Pogba

Juventus Coach Maurizio Sarri has confirmed his interest in Manchester United star Paul Pogba who is also on the radar of Real Madrid.

The midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to both the Serie A champions and Los Blancos, but the Old Trafford club have raised the stake to counter efforts to prise away the Frenchman.

Pogba joined Juve for a development fee from Manchester United in 2012, and left the Bianconeri for what was then a world record transfer fee of €105m in 2016.

The Coach was asked about that in his Press conference ahead of the Tottenham Hotspur friendly in Singapore.

“I really like Pogba,” Sarri confirmed as cited by Football Italia.

“He’s a Manchester United player though. I’m not the sporting director, so I don’t know what the situation is.”
