Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori reveals club stars’ reaction after 2-2 draw against Sheffield United

Fikayo Tomori has revealed the mood of his team-mates after dropping two points at stoppage time on Saturday, saying they were angry to have thrown away those vital points in their 2-2 draw with Sheffield United at Stamford Bridge.

The 21-year-old defender made his full debut for the Blues in what was their youngest-ever Premier League starting XI, with academy prospect Billy Gilmour also making his maiden bow from the bench.

A first-half brace from Tammy Abraham, who took his tally to four goals in two games, was cancelled out in the second half by Callum Robinson and an own goal from Tomori’s defensive partner Kurt Zouma.

“We’re all angry because when you’re 2-0 up at home then the game should be safe,” Tomori told the club’s website .

“We said at half-time that we wanted to up it again but we didn’t do that. We conceded a goal really early on in the second half and it becomes very difficult when you do that. It’s disappointing but we just have to learn from it.

“This is Chelsea, we’re a big club and there’s a lot of expectations but we’re here to try to meet those expectations.”

While Tomori was obviously pleased to start and Chelsea fans will have been satisfied to see such a promising young side, the defender is also well aware that goodwill does not tend to last long at Stamford Bridge if results aren’t good, report Goal.

Some voiced their frustrations on social media at a perceived naivety from Frank Lampard in bringing on 18-year-old Gilmour as his side fought to close out the game – and eventually failed to do so.

“There are high standards and when we fall below those standards then of course there will be questions. It’s not always going to be perfect but in games like today, when we’re in such a strong position and then we throw it away, it’s disappointing.”

“I’m here to try and push everyone else in the squad in my position so it was nice to get my full debut. I’m very proud but it would have been even better for us to get the win.

“We [Tomori, Abraham and Mason Mount] have gone through the whole process and we’ve seen a lot of people come and go so to get to this stage is good but obviously now we want more. We want to really cement our places in the team and do big things for this club.”

Callum Hudson-Odoi reveals time he will return to Chelsea squad

Chelsea starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi says he hopes to return to the squad following the international break.

The 18-year-old sustained an Achilles rupture during a Premier League match against which cut his season short and ruled him out for a few months.

Hudson-Odoi has been out of action this season so far but he hopes of being back in the squad by the conclusion of the international break, report Caughtoffside.

As quoted by Sky Sports, the teenager said: “Recovery has gone really well and I feel good. Hopefully I can be back after the international break. We have to just get things going and hopefully everything goes to plan.

I was scared it could take longer but really recovery has gone very well and I am really happy everything has gone to plan. Now I just can’t wait to get back on the pitch and start playing again.”

Chelsea, Liverpool threatened with hefty fines over partnership with Russian firm

There are reports in England that Chelsea and Liverpool face hefty fines unless they ditch Russian betting partner, 1xBet.

The two Premier League clubs have been ordered to stop promoting the firm or face prosecution after they lost their licence allowing them to operate in the UK last month, say The Times.

Harry Kane, Willian and Virgil van Dijk have all helped plug 1xBet – with Tottenham cancelled their partnership after the Russian firm were blacklisted in the UK.

The Gambling Commission revealed they spoke with Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool, warning them to stop promoting immediately.

They were told if they fail to comply they would face unlimited fines and even 51 weeks in prison, The Sun report.

In light of the revelation, Tottenham swiftly ditched 1xBet as a sponsor – in what is the first major intervention by a regulator over gambling firms bankrolling football.

The Russian firm have been blacklisted by regulators for being used to promote betting on children’s sports, cockfighting and even a pornographic casino.

1xBet is also said to be one of the biggest advertisers on a host of sites who host illegal Premier League live streams.

On the issue, Campaign for Fairer Gambling spokesperson Matt Zarb-Cousin described the situation as “shocking”.

Zarb-Cousin said: “It is shocking that these football clubs failed to do the most basic due diligence checks on 1xBet before signing up for these multi-million-pound deals.

“It’s an absolute debacle.”

1xBet was launched in 2007, with Spurs making them their global betting in 2018, with Liverpool and Chelsea following suit earlier this summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær receives Manchester United legend’s support over Lukaku, Sanchez departures

Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand has thrown his weight behind Ole Gunnar Solskjær for moving on the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku.

Sanchez and Lukaku both secured switches to Inter Milan this month, ending torrid spells at United. Sanchez joined the Italian side for a season-long loan, while Lukaku moved to Antonio Conte’s side on a permanent deal.

Solskjær has opted to give younger talent a chance at Old Trafford. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have been handed the responsibility as the club’s leading strikers, while wingers Mason Greenwood and Daniel James have taken up the void left by Sanchez, report the Daily Mail.

And Ferdinand, 40, has praised the approach taken by Solskjær to move the pair on this summer in favour of giving youth players a chance to shine.

He told BT Sport: ‘I think there’s been some clear thinking from Ole Gunnar Solskjær. The reaction has been quite negative from this window but what I can see which is positive is a clear picture from Ole in that he wants to bring young, hungry players into this football club.

‘He doesn’t want any complacency, he doesn’t want people coasting and anyone in that category has been shipped out or they’re going to be on their way. He’s made that very clear and apparent to those people and I think it’s a step in the right direction.’

Lampard identifies key figure responsible for Chelsea defence problems, plans to axe him

Reports in England claim Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has identified Cesar Azpilicueta as the key reason the club’s defence capitulates whenever it comes under pressure.

Azpilicueta has endured a tough start to the season under Lampard, failing to replicate the solid performances for which he became known in a Blues shirt.

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta will be dropped by Frank Lampard once Reece James returns from injury.

Chelsea have conceded nine goals in their opening four games and Lampard is now preparing to make Azpilicueta the fall-guy, per the Daily Star.

The report claims Lampard is waiting for James to recover from ankle damage he sustained in the summer before slotting him into the starting line-up.

The 19-year-old is expected to be back fit after the international break, report the Express.

James impressed on loan at Wigan last season, featuring in 45 Championship games for the Latics.

Lampard said James would be a “big player” for Chelsea back in August as he showed signs of progression in the treatment room.

While Derby manager, Lampard said of James: “I did a lot of work with the Academy at Chelsea last year and I saw a lot of him, trained with him a lot.

Guardiola predicts what will happen to Alexis Sanchez under Antonio Conte at Inter Milan

Pep Guardiola says Inter boss Antonio Conte is the right man to get the best out of Manchester United loanee Alexis Sanchez.

The Chilean star had endured a nightmare spell at Old Trafford and was sidelined under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after a string of injuries and below-par performances.

The City manager was believed to have been keen on securing the services of the winger before former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho he took him to Old Trafford.

‘I know him,’ said Guardiola. ‘We worked together in Barcelona – I have a special affection as a player, of course, but especially as a human being. He’s an incredible, humble guy and a fighter.

‘So now he decided to move Italy with one of the greatest teams in Europe with Inter right now, incredible manager with Antonio Conte, and I’m pretty sure they are going to do well.

‘Because I think the way Inter plays, it suits him perfectly. Playing close to (Romelu) Lukaku and in this position I think he is going to have a good period in Milan.’

Frank Lampard blows hot over racial attack on Kurt Zouma

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has spoken out on the racism aimed at Kurt Zouma following Chelsea’s draw against Sheffield United.

The Frenchman was racially abused on Twitter after his own goal handed Sheffield United a point from a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues let slip a 2-0 lead against the newly-promoted side, to draw 2-2.

It is the latest in a disgustingly long line of racist incidents in the Premier League this year, with Blues teammate Tammy Abraham also targeted, as have Manchester United duo Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford been.

And Blues boss Lampard admitted it was an issue that desperately needed to be dealt with, report football.london.

Speaking after the game he said: “I am probably going over the ground from Tammy, firstly it is the person who does it, whoever is hiding.

“Then it is on the social media platforms to give some accountability to people who register and can be chased down for it.

“It is important. Until we get to that, however horrible that conversation is and how we get tired of talking about it, because if there no culpability to anybody then anyone can say anything.

“I don’t care if it’s racism, calling names, homophobia, sexism, everything. Unfortunately among society it is out there and it has to be dealt with.”

There are plans for Premier League clubs to meet with Twitter over the problems in the next few weeks and Lampard was asked if it was something Chelsea would be participating in.

“I think we have plans to do that,” he said. “Everyone knows in the way that I speak and the way the club act what we want to do with it. Any player. We are clear about that.”

Chelsea confirm Tiemoue Bakayoko’s transfer as Monaco celebrate his arrival, say ‘Baka is back’

Chelsea have announced Tiemoue Bakayoko’s return to his former club Monaco on loan for the season, where he will reunite with former team-mate Cesc Fabregas.

The Frenchman will look to re-discover the form that brought him to Stamford Bridge back in his native France.

After being named in the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season in the 2016/17 campaign, a huge future was expected for the 25-year-old when he joined the Blues for £40million back in 2017.

Having failed to live up to expectation during his first season at Stamford Bridge, Bakayoko was loaned out to AC Milan last summer to become the player he was expected to become.

While goal scoring was never his primary asset, he still only hit the back of the net once last season – even less than in his days playing under Antonio Conte.

There were reports that Bakayoko wanted a move back to Milan this summer, but the seven-time European champions did not want him back.

Frank Lampard has no desire to keep him at Chelsea either, after the midfielder failed to impress in pre-season matches or in training, The Sun report.

It now seems his old team have a soft spot for their former star after no other clubs made a significant effort to sign the player.

Monaco have expressed their delight at re-signing Bakayoko on Twitter, after uploading a video dedicated to the Frenchman with a caption that reads: ‘Baka is back’.

Napoli surrender three points to Juventus at the death after heroic fight back from 3 goals down (Match Report)

Napoli were on the verge of recording one of their best results in Serie A against Juventus after fighting back until the 92nd minutes when Kalidou Koulibaly scoored an own goal to hand the Old Lady all the three points at stake.

Cristiano Ronaldo stung Alex Meret’s gloves from a tight angle, but Wojciech Szczesny made a sensational one-handed save to push Allan’s screamer round the post from the edge of the box.

Mattia De Sciglio limped off with a muscular problem to make way for Danilo, who scored 26 seconds later. Leonardo Bonucci charged down Lorenzo Insigne’s shot with his face and Juve went on a rapid counter-attack with Douglas Costa, Danilo prodding in the finish with the inside of the right boot from 10 yards. The former Manchester City man could not have made a more immediate impact off the bench in his Serie A debut.

However, Juve added a second three minutes later with ex-Napoli striker Higuain. Pipita gathered with his back to goal, turned on a sixpence to leave Kalidou Koulibaly rooted to the spot and blasted into the far top corner.

Considering Napoli only won 4-3 at Fiorentina in their season opener, the defensive record is going to concern Carlo Ancelotti.

It was very nearly 3-0, as Sami Khedira was sent clear through the middle, but Alex Meret came flying out for a desperate save one-on-one.

Khedira went even closer soon after, his curler bouncing off the crossbar and ricocheting kindly for Meret to get it clear.

Despite conceding five goals in one-and-a-half games, Ancelotti doubled down by introducing Chucky Lozano for his debut and Mario Rui after the break. Insigne went off with a slight knock, while Faouzi Ghoulam was on a yellow card.

Dries Mertens skimmed the far post with a curler and had another fingertipped out from under the bar, while Meret palmed a Blaise Matuidi strike past the upright.

Juventus made it 3-0 as Douglas Costa pulled back from the by-line for Cristiano Ronaldo, who backed off defenders to create just that yard of space he needed to drill into the bottom corner from 12 yards.

Napoli got one back straight away, a free kick floated in for the looping header of Kostas Manolas into the far top corner.

It was another sudden surge of activity, as two minutes later it was 3-2 with a goal on Chucky Lozano’s debut. Piotr Zielinski burst away down the left and rolled across for the Mexico international to slide in, anticipating Matthijs de Ligt. He became the first Mexican ever to score in Serie A and the first Napoli player to net on his debut since Lorenzo Tonelli in 2017.

The game was turned on its head and Napoli were now pouring forward, but at the other end Meret flew to fingertip a Douglas Costa scorcher on to the crossbar.

Szczesny fumbled a swerving Fabian Ruiz attempt, doing just enough to push it away from Lozano at the back post, but Napoli completed the comeback from 3-0 down to 3-3 in 16 minutes.

Zielinski put another free kick across the six-yard box and Giovanni Di Lorenzo got in front of De Ligt to bundle it over the line with his thigh. Incredibly, all three Napoli goals were scored by summer signings.

Douglas Costa’s curler skimmed the bar, but deep into stoppages there was another astonishing twist in this game. A free kick seemed to be going nowhere particularly dangerous, Koulibaly was in acres of space to make the clearance, but shinned it backwards into the top corner of his own net. The man who scored the stoppage-time winner here in April 2018 ended up gifting Juve the victory at the same minute.
