Chelsea star reveals his “final challenge” when he leaves Stamford Bridge

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has revealed his desire to play in MLS before he retires from football.

Giroud joined Chelsea from rivals Arsenal in January 2018 for £15 million, which allowed to play more and secure his spot in France’s 2018 World Cup-winning squad.

He was instrumental in helping Chelsea win the the Europa League last season with 11 goals in 12 games, including one in the final in Baku against his former club.

The France international revealed his interest in playing in MLS after leaving Chelsea in an interview on French television on Wednesday.

“MLS, for my family, my children who speak English, it is interesting. In a year? Two years? I don’t know when. But of course, I will be opened to a new challenge,” the Chelsea forward told RMC Sport.

According to ESPN FC, Giroud has watched the league and has followed the careers of European players who moved there, and has already been approached about a move there for himself a few times already.

Giroud will be out of contract next June and the former Arsenal star won’t close other doors either and will look at all the options and offers — including staying at Chelsea, where he is happy.

“It is not only MLS which could interest me,” he said.

“There has been no discussions because the club had an option for an extra year and they took it because they were happy with my contribution to the club. It is even more than that. There is real trust. It was not really my desire to leave anyway so I never asked myself about a possible departure.”

The Frenchman is currently preparing with Les Bleus for two Euro 2020 qualifiers against Albania and Andorra at home.

REVEALED: Why Frank Lampard told this Chelsea star to change his jersey number

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard reportedly urged Andreas Christensen to change his squad number to mark “a fresh start” at Stamford Bridge this season – echoing the advice he gave Mason Mount in their time together at Derby.

Both men have featured heavily for Lampard in the early stage of his Blues tenure, with Mount starting every Premier League outing so far and bagging two goals in the process.

According to The Athletic, Lampard advised the Dane to change his shirt number from the No.27 he’d occupied for the last two years to Luiz’s vacant No.4.

This was a mental tactic from the new Chelsea gaffer to ensure Christensen wipes the slate clean in SW6, a ploy he also used with Mount at Derby last term when he told his midfield protege to ditch the No.19 shirt he wore at Vitesse Arnhem in favour of No.8, report the Daily Star.

Lampard enjoyed staggering success in that jersey for the Blues, scoring a club-record 211 goals that helped them to three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups and the Champions League.
