AS Roma may cut short Chelsea defender Zappacosta’s loan deal

There are growing fears in Italy that AS Roma may cancel Davide Zappacosta’s loan deal after Giallorossi announced today that the loanee had damaged the knee ligaments in his right leg.

Zappacosta was shipped off to the Italian capital in August after Frank Lampard decided to place his faith in youngster Reece James instead.

The Italian broke down in training on Friday, and it was reported shortly after that he had torn an ACL.

He had managed just 12 minutes of football for the Giallorossi so far this season and was about to return from a calf problem.

The 27-year-old’s season-long loan does not include an option to buy from Chelsea but does contain a break clause in January.

Football Italia report that the defender may be sent back to Stamford Bridge without starting a single match for the Lupi.

He is the 15th Roma player to tear his ACL in the last five years after the likes of Alessandro Florenzi, Kevin Strootman, Antonio Rudiger and Emerson Palmieri.

He also becomes the club’s fifth major casualty this term after Lorenzo Pellegrini, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Diego Perotti and Cengiz Under.

Sky Sport Italia is forecasting a layoff of 4-5 months for the ex-Torino and Atalanta wingback, who has 13 Italy caps.

Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Dennis set to get tattoos for goals against Real Madrid

Club Brugge forward Emmanuel Dennis has revealed his intention to get tattoos to mark his historic double strike at Real Madrid this week.

The 21-year-old gave the Belgian side a shock two-goal lead in the first half and while Madrid rescued a point in the tie, it was still a historic result for the Blauw-Zwart.

“Santiago Bernabeu, this is a dream,” Dennis said ahead of the match on his Youtube channel, as cited by ESPN FC.

“A lot of people didn’t even think they would come here to play. If I score then I will get a tattoo on my skin.”

After the match he then told Belgian television channel RTL: “I guess I will now have to get two tattoos!

“I’m happy to have scored two goals, but we really wanted to win the game and we were not far away from doing it. We have to be content with the point, which is not a bad result.”

Club Brugge now have two points from their opening two group games – having also secured a draw in their opening matchday at home to Galatasaray, report Football Espana.

Philippe Clement’s side now sit second in a tough group which also includes French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Frank Lampard reveals Chelsea’s new vice-captain

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has confirmed Jorginho as the club’s new vice-captain.

The Brazilian, once seen as a pet favourite of former Blues boss Maurizio Sarri, was jeered and ridiculed by boo-boys earlier this year.

Since Sarri’s sacking the midfielder has experienced a rapid reversal in fortune.

The supporters who villified him are now singing his praises.

Frank Lampard revealed the Brazilian’s new status within the team ahead of their game against Southampton on Sunday, report The Sun.

Lampard said: “Jorginho is vice-captain and Azpi is captain, which has been clear since the start of the season because his professionalism and career here speaks for itself.

“Jorginho is a big character and a driver for us, which is very evident to see on the pitch.

“It’s obviously important [to speak English]. We always try here to push that along as soon as players come in because communication is key on and off the pitch.

“He crosses the borders, if there are any, because it’s easy sometimes to come in and stay within your nationality groups.”
