Frank Lampard reveals what he told his players after Manchester City defeat

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard assuaged the bitter feelings of his players after losing to Manchester City at the Etihad despite taking the lead in the first half of the encounter.

City came from behind to win 2-1 at the Etihad, with goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez following N’Golo Kante’s opener.

The Blues had never lost any of their away matches in this season’s Premier League.

Asked by Sky Sports what message he had for his players in the dressing room at full-time, Lampard said: “The fact that it hurts to lose any match, but even more when you’re not used to it. In the league, and with our away form, we’ve been winning for a long time.

“We’ve got to take the positives, and learn from the negatives. We need to look at that – but let’s go again.”

Lampard said it was a game of narrow margins, with City’s quality in attack the reason they emerged from the game as narrow victors.

Chelsea star offered to Real Madrid

There are reports Chelsea star Willian has been offered to Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer.

The 31-year-old is in the last year of his current deal at Stamford Bridge and becomes a free agent in July – with Barcelona also monitoring the situation.

But reports in Spain claim the player’s representatives are contacting clubs to stir up interest.

Spanish website Defensa Central report Real Madrid have been sounded out to see if they are keen on bringing the Brazilian to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Lukaku on target as Inter Milan flatten Torino, Conte says he’s “happiest with clean sheet” (Match Report)

Inter Milan were in a killer mood as they tore their hosts Torino into pieces with goals from Lautaro Martinez, Stefan de Vrij and Romelu Lukaku, coasting home to 3-0 victory.

The Nerazzurri had not won any of their last five Serie A meetings with Torino, including two consecutive defeats at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.

Italy international Andrea Belotti fell awkwardly in the opening minutes and suffered a knock to the ribs that left him badly winded. He tried to carry on, but eventually hobbled away to be replaced by Simone Zaza.

At the same moment as the change was taking place, Inter took the lead. Matias Vecino knocked a Salvatore Sirigu goal kick back and Lautaro Martinez managed to sprint away even on this horrid turf, firing the angled drive into the far bottom corner.

Torino kept possession for long periods, Samir Handanovic’s gloves stung at the near post by Cristian Ansaldi, then Simone Verdi’s follow-up deflected wide.

However, just as the hosts were pushing, they went 2-0 down. First Marcelo Brozovic’s cross found a towering Romelu Lukaku header and even more impressive Sirigu save.

On the resulting corner, Stefan de Vrij was allowed to make a run from deep and volley in Cristiano Biraghi’s cross completely unmarked at the back post.

Inter were more clinical and it made a huge difference, as Romelu Lukaku got the third goal. He went on the counter and picked his moment perfectly, firing the angled drive through the legs of Bremer into the far bottom corner.

The Granata ended their run of two points from six rounds with a crushing 4-0 victory at Brescia just before the break for international duty.

Meanwhile after the match, Antonio Conte said he was “happiest with the clean sheet”.

This was the Nerazzurri’s seventh consecutive away victory in Serie A, setting a new club record.

“The thing that makes me happiest is the clean sheet,” the coach told DAZN as cited by Football Italia.

“It was a good defensive performance and that is very important, because we know that we score sooner or later. If we can be more hermetically sealed at the back, then we can be in good shape.”

Jose Mourinho wins on Tottenham debut, endures last-minute scare

Jose Mourinho enjoyed a successful return to the Premier League as Tottenham Hotspur beat West Ham United 3-2 at London Stadium.

Spurs went two up at half-time thanks to Heung-Min Son’s third goal in two games at the London Stadium and a determined finish from Lucas Moura – one of three players restored to the starting line-up by Mourinho.

Lucas missed a sitter just after the restart but Harry Kane quickly added the third with a header that also took him above Martin Chivers as Spurs third-highest scorer of all-time as the visitors dominated for the bulk of the game.

But Kane was denied another by a fine last-ditch tackle from Issa Diop just past the hour mark. The hosts, also struggling of late, upped their game and pulled a goal back on 73 minutes when Cresswell’s delivery came out to Antonio, who drilled low past Gazzaniga from the edge of the area.

And Angelo Ogbonna scored with practically the last kick of the contest deep in added time, but it was too little, too late for Manuel Pellegrini’s side as Tottenham clinched their first Premier League away win since January and first in six games in the competition.

Spurs’ victory lifts them from 14th to ninth.

West Ham drop to 16th with 13 points from 13 matches.
