Chelsea are determined to run away with the three points at Goodison Park today after beating Aston Villa in a midweek fixture.
Frank Lampard included Kurt Zouma, who spent last season on loan at Goodison Park, in an unchanged starting line-up from the one which beat Aston Villa, meaning ex-Everton midfielder Ross Barkley had to settle for a place on the bench.
The London club have an all-important clash against Ligue 1 side in their last Champions League group game nextweek.
Everton’s caretaker manager Duncan Ferguson made two changes – one enforced – for his first match in charge after taking over from the sacked Marco Silva.
Everton sacked Silva on Thursday with the club 18th in the standings having lost nine of their 15 matches and promoted former striker Ferguson from the coaching staff for Saturday’s game against fourth-placed Chelsea.
With central defender Yerry Mina not fit after a knock in the midweek defeat to Liverpool which ended Silva’s reign the former Toffees striker switched to a back four against Chelsea, which meant a recall for Morgan Schneiderlin in midfield.
Further forward Theo Walcott replaced Tom Davies.
