Brighton boss reacts to Chelsea interest in club’s star Lewis Dunk

Brighton boss Graham Potter remains unfazed at the prospect of losing star centre-half Lewis Dunk to Chelsea in a £50million deal.

The Blues hope to wrap up the huge transfer for the 28-year-old in this month’s window.

Dunk has been one of the major reasons for Potter’s impressive start to his reign on the South Coast.

Potter refuses to confirm or deny if the Londoners have made a bid for the defender.

He told the Daily Express: “He signed a long term contract (July 2018). We are quite relaxed about the situation.

“I have really enjoyed working with Lewis as a footballer and as a person. He is really important for us and we are really happy that he is with us.

“January is always a little bit different to every other month if we are being honest. There is always a lot going on, a lot of talk from you guys (media) questions and interest.

“The window is open so there is more things going on in that regard but that is normal we know that is the case. When the window is open there is always more talk other than the football.”

Napoli President fumes as club slide in performances, regrets Carlo Ancelotti’s sack

Reports in Italy claim that Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis is angry at the dismal performances of the club since the appointment of Gennaro Gattuso.

The Partenopei have lost four out of Gattuso’s five Serie A games since replacing Carlo Ancelotti on December 10, including last night’s dismal 2-0 home defeat to Fiorentina.

The film mogul therefore wishes he could sack Gattuso and recall Ancelotti.

The former Chelsea boss and De Laurentiis were at daggers drawn over the club owner’s decision to slap a lockdown on Napoli’s squad after a string of dismal performances.

Ancelotti was eventually sacked after he secured a berth for the Serie A club in the knock-out stage of the UEFA Champions League.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, De Laurentiis was so angry at the slide in performances as well as results that he wishes he could recall Ancelotti.

That won’t be possible, because the Champions League winning tactician already found himself a new job with Everton on December 22.

The Toffees have won three and lost two – to Liverpool and Manchester City – since taking over at Goodison Park.

Meanwhile, Football Italia report that Gattuso announced last night that the squad had decided to go into a training retreat.

Napoli’s season could go from bad to worse over the next week, as they host Lazio in the Coppa Italia quarter-final, then welcome Serie A leaders Juventus.
