Chelsea have joined the race for Barcelona’s Marc Cucurella as the Premier League club look to recruit a left-back to bolster their defensive options, according to the Mail on Sunday.

The defender has been a revelation on loan at Getafe, who have agreed a deal to sign the 21-year-old at the end of the season for 6million euros, as long as Barcelona are guaranteed 40% of his future fee.

The Spain U21 international’s performances have attracted a number of suitors in recent weeks, with reports from Goal.com and Mail on Sunday claiming Chelsea, Napoli and Bundesliga pair Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen both interested in a move.

Additional reports by Football Espana claim that his contract situation at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez is complicated however, with Getafe almost certain to exercise their purchase option in the summer.

Cucurella can joined the club as part of a pre-agreed €6M deal, with Barcelona retaining a 40% of any future sell on fee for the 21-year old.

The reported deal on offer from Getafe would also include a €25M release clause, which all of the interested parties would be confident of matching should he want to leave.

Getafe are looking for a top four finish in LaLiga.
