Former Chelsea star Ramires reveals reason suspended John Terry wore full kit to lift 2012 Champions League trophy

Ramires has revealed the reason John Terry wore his full kit at the 2012 Champions League final – and says it was the club’s idea.

The former Chelsea captain was ruled out of the match at the Allianz Arena after being sent off in the semi-final second leg in Barcelona.

Terry was lambasted at the time for appearing post-match in his kit, despite not kicking a ball all night, and he was the subject of hundreds of memes on social media.

But Ramires, now at Palmeiras, has defended his former captain and says the decision was not Terry’s to make.

Ramires, who also missed the final, told FourFourTwo: “All of us changed post-match. The idea came from the club, because they wanted everyone ready for the team photo.”

Ramires admits it was a rollercoaster of emotions to watch the match and not be able to affect change.

“I was really nervous! I kicked things,” he continued.

“I screamed, I cursed. When Bayern scored, it was past the 80th minute and some fans started to take the p***.

“But when Drogba scored, let’s say we had revenge. It was a happiness explosion! Terry stood up on the seat to celebrate.

“When it came to Drogba for the last penalty I was very confident – he was our best taker. We were over the moon at full-time.”

REVEALED: How Liverpool hijacked Chelsea move for goalkeeper Alisson Becker

Reports in England have revealed that Chelsea were in “advanced talks” to sign Alisson Becker before he joined Liverpool.

Alisson, 27, joined Liverpool from Roma in 2018 for £67million – a world-record move at the time.

The Athletic claim the Blues stalled on a deal, though, because they thought they could convince Thibaut Courtois to sign a new contract.

Chelsea were looking for a replacement for Courtois as the Belgian had made clear that he wanted to join Real Madrid.

The Blues held talks with Alisson and the Brazilian was keen on a move to Stamford Bridge but the Blues gave Liverpool a window of opportunity as they dropped negotiations to focus on convincing Courtois to stay.

The negotiations were said to be at an advanced stage but as Chelsea cooled their interest, it allowed Liverpool to swoop in.

Alisson has been a revelation for the Reds and helped Liverpool cure their defensive problems that undermined Jurgen Klopp’s early work at Anfield.

Chelsea ultimately failed to convince Courtois to stay and instead triggered a £73m release clause in Kepa Arrizabalaga’s contract to sign the Spaniard from Athletic Bilbao.

Jose Mourinho set to miss Son Heung-min as Tottenham star joins national service in South Korea amid coronavirus pandemic

Son Heung-min is set to complete his four-week national service in South Korea during this coronavirus season delay.

The Spurs forward, 27, managed to get out of the mandatory 21-month service after he led his nation to the gold medal at the Asian Games in 2018.

Under South Korean law, before the age of 28 you must complete 21 months of national service, unless you earn an exemption.

According to The Sun, Son’s victory two years ago gave him that exemption – but is still required to complete a shortened four-week regime.

With the football season on hold, Son headed home last week to do his duty.

He arrived in capital city Seoul with his parents on Sunday – and must now spend 14 days in quarantine.

It is the second spell of quarantine he has undertaken during the coronavirus crisis, after he was forced to spend 14 days in self-isolation on returning to the UK at the end of February, after he opted for surgery in South Korea.

After that he will potentially begin his four weeks of service immediately and faces a race to complete it before any potential season restart.

The hope for Son – and Tottenham – is that he can sneak his month of service in before the campaign gets underway again.

All Premier League football is currently suspended until April 30, but all 20 teams are set to meet on Friday via video-link to determine whether there needs to be a further delay.

Chelsea set to lock horns with Barcelona over Antonio Conte’s hotshot

Latest reports in Italy claim Chelsea are ready to battle Barcelona for Inter striker Lautaro Martinez but the Blaugrana could use Arturo Vidal to lower the fee.

The Argentina international hitman has a release clause worth €111m in his contract, valid only for the first two weeks of July.

Spanish newspaper Sport today claims that Chelsea are prepared to pay the full sum, giving Barcelona a genuine rival in the bidding war.

It would then go to personal terms, but the same report assures Barca are confident of their upper hand for several reasons.

According to Football Italia, Lautaro Martinez has long been publicly courted by the Blaugrana, who see him as the heir to Luis Suarez, and he’d see them as the natural next step in his career after Inter.

Mundo Deportivo point out that Barcelona also have a player wanted desperately by Inter boss Antonio Conte – Vidal – who could take part in an exchange deal.

They’d offer Chile international midfielder Vidal plus €69.5m.

Lautaro Martinez is still only 22 years old and scored 16 goals in 31 competitive games this season, including five in six Champions League appearances.
