Antonio Conte opens up on N’Golo Kante, reveals position Chelsea midfielder should be playing

Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has wadded into the controversial debate of what exact position N’Golo Kante should playing.

Every manager he has had at Chelsea so far has never used him as a sole defensive midfielder, neither does he play there for France, Chelsea News claim.

Now former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has waded in on the argument and has simply ended it in one clever sentence.

“In my opinion he can play in every position in the midfield” said the current Inter Milan boss, and to be honest, that probably just about sums up this discussion perfectly.

As reported by The Evening Standard, Conte was asked his views on where Frank Lampard should be playing Kante.

He continued: “We are talking about an amazing player, a top player. He is fantastic with or without the ball and when you have N’Golo in your team you can think that you are playing with one player more. One of the best players I have had in my career as a coach.”

Real Betis, Newcastle set to battle for former Chelsea striker

Reports in Spain and France claim Real Betis and Newcastle are set to slug it out for Olympique Lyonnais forward Bertrand Traore as a summer transfer target.

Marca cite a report from L’Equipe which claims the former Chelsea star is on a shortlist of wanted players for Los Verdiblancos.

Foot Mercato also add that Newcastle are also interested in the Burkina Faso international once their new ownership is completed.

The 24-year-old joined the French club in a deal reported to be worth €10m in the summer of 2017 after a successful season-long loan stint at Ajax, whom he helped to that season’s Europa League final.

Traore left Chelsea for Lyon in 2017, and from the right wing has scored 33 goals for the French side since then.

Capped 52 times for the Burkina Faso, Traore has lost prominence at Lyon this campaign and is said to be open to a change of club this summer.

A versatile attacker who is said to be comfortable on either wing, Traore is a former teammate of Betis star Nabil Fekir.

Former Barcelona president plans to bring Pep Guardiola back to Nou Camp

Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed he intends to run in the club’s presidential elections next year – and he wants Pep Guardiola to go back with him as head coach.

Guardiola has been very successful as manager of Bayern Munich and, presently Manchester City. But Juventus were reportedly keen in their bid to employ the Spaniard before opting for Maurizio Sarri.

Laporta was Barcelona president between 2003 and 2010 and he told Catalan station TV3 on Monday it was his ‘dream’ to return to the role, while he also spoke of his desire to be reunited with the current Manchester City manager.

He said: “I would very much like Guardiola to come back, but now he is at City and it is a decision that Pep should take. He is a benchmark for Barcelona and many Catalans would like him to train Barça again.

“At the right time, I will speak to the person we think should be a Barca coach from 2021.”

Guardiola was appointed Barcelona head coach by Laporta in 2008, and he went on to collect two Champions League and three La Liga titles across four years.

Chelsea target Aubameyang REVEALS promise he made to his late grandfather over European club

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future at Arsenal remains uncertain, with no sign of a new deal being signed – and could an old conversation be playing on his mind?

Aubameyang’s contract expires in 2021, and speaking in 2016 as a Borussia Dortmund player, he revealed, according to Skysports, he had promised his late grandfather he would one day play for Real Madrid.

The striker said: “Before he died two years ago I promised him that one day I would play for Real Madrid. My grandfather was from Avila, not far from Madrid.

“It’s what I said to him. I know it’s not easy but it’s something I keep in mind.”

Chelsea legend Petr Cech reveals why he named Wayne Rooney as his toughest opponent

Chelsea legend Petr Cech has named Wayne Rooney as his toughest opponent during his time with the Stamford Bridge.

The former goalkeeper, who spent most of his career with Chelsea, but had a few years with Arsenal, explained why he felt the ex-Manchester United striker was ahead of the others.

He told Chelsea’s official website: “Every time we played against United I had to make sure I was aware every time he had the ball, because he was very unpredictable and very clever.

“He is a guy who can chase, who can fight, who can run, who is clever with his shot.

“He could score from the halfway line, he could try and chip you if you were too high. That was a challenge I enjoyed.”

Goal machine’s agent says “we had flirted with Chelsea” in January

Chelsea and West Ham missed out on the chance to sign Brazilian goal machine Gabriel Barbosa in January.

His agent Junior Pedroso said: “Gabriel was in great form, obviously, he drew the attention of many big clubs.

“But who really advanced were two teams in Germany and a team in England that made a proposal, which was West Ham. We had flirted with Chelsea and some other clubs.

“But for the project that was presented in January, Flamengo were the best project for him to take off in his career.”
