Liverpool fans react as Timo Werner seals Chelsea move, regret Stamford Bridge move

Liverpool fans have been reacting on social media after Timo Werner completed his move to Chelsea.

The Stamford Bridge club are believed to have paid £47.5million to complete the signing of Werner, who will join on a five-year contract worth more than £170,000-a-week.

Werner had been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, however the Reds decided not to go in for the forward and it is Chelsea who have pounced for his signature.

The 24-year-old has been one of the stand-out performers in the Bundesliga over recent seasons and last night scored his 26th league goal of the campaign.

And below is how a selection of Liverpool fans reacted to the confirmation on Twitter.

Kai Havertz sends Chelsea fans into meltdown as star hints at next move

Kai Havertz has sent Chelsea fans into frenzy after he hinted he could be on his way to Chelsea after his compatriot Timo Werner put pen to paper with the Blues.

Chelsea announced the £50million signing of Werner on Thursday, with the German set to link up with his new team-mates in July subject to passing a medical.

And it seems Havertz, according to the Mirror, was keeping track of the news on social media, ‘liking’ a tweet that responded to Chelsea’s announcement.

The tweet endorsed by the Bayer Leverkusen star simply read: “Announce Havertz”.

And the Bayer Leverkusen star sent fans into meltdown after he ‘liked’ the tweet from his official page.

After a screenshot of his actions went viral, The Sun report, one excited fan said: “It’s happening, he’s coming, oh my god. You guys are on fire.”

Another added: “It’s happening!!!!! Chelsea can make it happen.”

One Twitter user commented: “If this happens, oh my god. You will be title contenders.”

In response, another fan said: “And people were doubting Frank’s pull power.”

But Chelsea need to act fast as Real Madrid are reportedly in pole position to secure his signature.

Leverkusen have priced Havertz at more than $100m (£89.5m) – but will not block his move if their valuation is met.

RB Leipzig chief heaps praise on Chelsea officials over Timo Werner move

RB Leipzig chief Oliver Mintzlaff has hailed Chelsea officials who were involved in Timo Werner’s transfer negotiations.

The Germany international will officially join the Stamford Bridge club on July 1, and will not play for Leipzig in their Champions League fixture in August.

Although both parties have agreed not to disclose the transfer fee, Leipzig managing director Mintzlaff has had positive things to say about the negotiation process.

“Negotiations with those responsible at Chelsea were always very respectful, fair and constructive,” Mintzlaff told RB Leipzig’s official website.

“We only wish Timo the best for his challenge in London.”

He said that he is proud of the transfer despite also calling it “a bitter loss”.

“We also consider this transfer a great compliment for our young club,” he added.

“We are proud to have formed a top international striker in just a few years, who now has the quality for an international top club like Chelsea FC.”

David Luiz reacts to his awful performance against Man City, reveals problem for display

David Luiz has admitted that Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City was his fault, insisting he wants to extend his contract at the club.

Luiz produced a catalogue of errors in a torrid 25-minute cameo appearance as 10-man Arsenal suffered a heavy loss at City on the Premier League’s return.

Luiz’s current contract is due to end on 30 June and the club are known to be keen to retain his services until the end of the current campaign and, if you believe Mikel Arteta, for potentially another year after that.

The Brazilian told the Sky Sports that: “It was not the team’s fault, it was my fault.

“I take the decision to play, I should take another decision the last two months but I didn’t.

“Today I think the team did well, especially after they went down to 10 men. The coach is amazing, all the players did amazing, it’s just my fault.”

When asked to clarify his point, he went on: “I should have taken a different decision, in the last two months and I didn’t.

“It’s about my contract, if I stay here or not. I have 14 days left to be here. And that’s it. So today was my fault.”

Asked a third time whether that meant he wanted to stay at the Emirates, he continued:

“A different decision, to decide to try to decide my future, to try to decide as early as possible but I didn’t. I don’t want to use that as an alibi or an excuse. It’s my fault and that’s it.

“I love to be here, that’s why I continue to train hard. That’s why, I came here today. That’s why, I try to do everything.

“That’s why I said to the players [after the game], “nobody needs to speak”, I need to show my face and be here. So, I want to stay. The coach knows. The coach wants me to stay. We are waiting for the decisions.”

While all is obviously not well in the Luiz camp, Arteta said in his own post-game interview that his opinion of the player has not changed.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s friend reveals star’s next move amid Chelsea speculation

Former Manchester United winger Nani has revealed Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted at finishing his career in the MLS.

Multiple reports claimed during the week that Chelsea are plotting a shock move for the Portuigal international.

Now in his second season at Juventus after a hugely successful time at Real Madrid, it is reported that the Blues are ready to launch a €120million (£107m) move to sign the Portuguese star.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is currently at Juventus after trophy-laden spells at Manchester United and Real Madrid, and his Portugal and former Old Trafford team-mate, who is plying his trade in America with Orlando City, has revealed Ronaldo could move stateside.

“A couple of years ago, he told me that he will probably end up in America,” Nani told ESPN. “It’s not 100 per cent, but probably. There is a chance.”

Manchester City flatten 10-man Arsenal, David Luiz sees red again (Match Report)

Goals from Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden were all Manchester City needed to beat 10-man Arsenal 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium in their first match after the COVID-19 outbreak.

Mikel Arteta’s team began brightly, despite losing Granit Xhaka to an early injury, but Bernd Leno was the busier goalkeeper as the first half wore on, making several good saves.

And in first-half stoppage time, Raheem Sterling fired in from an angle after collecting Kevin De Bruyne’s pass, which substitute David Luiz could not intercept.

Three minutes after half-time, David Luiz fouled Riyad Mahrez as the winger charged into the area, receiving a straight red card from referee Anthony Taylor.

De Bruyne converted the penalty and Pep Guardiola’s side dominated before Phil Foden made it 3-0 in stoppage time, following up after substitute Sergio Aguero’s shot had hit a post.

The only concern for Guardiola was a worrying injury to Eric Garcia after an accidental clash with Ederson.

Man City stay second on 60 points, while Arsenal remain ninth on 40.

Official: Chelsea receive second-leg date against Bayern Munich as UEFA reveal decision on Ziyech, Werner

Uefa have confirmed Chelsea’s Champions League return leg against Bayern Munich will be played on August 7-8.

But Frank Lampard will NOT be allowed to call on new signings Hakim Ziyech, nor likely capture Timo Werner.

The competition will be concluded during a mini-tournament in Lisbon.

The Blues are currently 3-0 down from the first leg at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, The Sun report that European football bosses still hope that fans can be allowed in the stadiums to give some atmosphere.

But Manchester City will not know until next month whether their last 16 tie with Real Madrid will be completed at the Etihad or in Portugal.

European bosses also agreed that the Europa League will be played to a finish under a similar format in Germany.

And Uefa President Aleksander Ceferin revealed that all issues over the postponed Euro 2020 tournament had been resolved with the matches played in the 12 scheduled cities across the tournament next summer.

Frank Lampard calls up versatile wonderkid to Chelsea first team as Willian, Pedro refuse to sign short contract extension

Reports in England claim that Frank Lampard has called up teenager Tino Livramento to first-team training at Chelsea.

The 17-year-old winger now gets the chance to impress Frank Lampard with Willian and Pedro heading for the exit door.

Neither player, according to The Sun, has signed an extension with the club and both their contracts expire at the end of the month.

The Telegraph report that Lamps is preparing for having to finish the season without either of the veterans.

And Livramento is one of those who has benefited from their uncertain futures.

The England Under-19s star has impressed at youth level and signed his first professional contract in November.

He has shown his versatility by operating at right and left back.

With five subs allowed and nine players permitted on the bench, Livramento could get the chance to make his top flight debut in the restart.

Livramento, who is from Croydon, joined the Blues at Under-9s level and signed a scholarship deal last summer before turning professional in November.
