(WATCH GOALS) Timo Werner makes history in his last match for RB Leipzig, nets brace for Bundesliga club

Timo Werner ended his RB Leipzig career on a remakable note, making history for the club as the highest goal scorer in the history of the Bundesliga club.

The 24-year-old has sealed a £47.5million move to Chelsea this summer and guided Leipzig to third place in the Bundesliga table with a 2-1 win against Augsburg in their final game of the season.

The German has rejected the chance to play in Leipzig’s remaining Champions League fixtures this season, meaning he entered the game knowing it was his last for the club.

And Werner certainly didn’t disappoint, taking his goal tally to 95 in 159 matches with a special double.

The Evening Standard report that Werner needed just 30 minutes to break Daniel Frahn’s long-standing record, rounding Augsburg goslkeeper Tomas Koubek to strike home into an empty net.

Leipzig needed to match Borussia Monchengladbach’s win to secure a top-three finish, and Augsburg looked to spoil the party, with Ruben Vargas providing an equaliser.

Typically, it was Werner who settled the tie with 10 minutes remaining. The forward beat the offside trap before smashing home from a tight angle.

The offside flag did go up, but fortunately – both for Werner and Leipzig – the decision was overruled by VAR.

Leipzig took the three points and third place, while Werner cemented his position in club history.

Werner was immediately brought off, with his final involvement being that second goal.

Chelsea fans unhappy with Blues leaked 2020-21 home kit

Chelsea’s 2020-21 home kit has been “leaked” and fans blasted the new “hideous” and “lazy” design.

The jersey was revealed online by Footy Headlines, who have a track record of successfully leaking football kits ahead of their official release – including Chelsea’s third strip this season.

But some Blues fans will hope they are wrong on this occasion.

The kit, with black around the edges, sports a massive Three Mobile logo printed on the centre and some have called to “bring back Adidas”.

One said: “Looks a bit plain something doesn’t seem right.”

Another said: “Adidas kit is way better than Nike.”

One added: “Terrible shirt bring back Adidas.”

Meanwhile, football kit website Footy Headlines state: “The new Chelsea 20-21 away shirt will bring an interesting and clean colour scheme to the table. Predominantly ‘cobalt tint’, which is a bright and relatively pale blue, the logos on the Nike Chelsea 20-21 away football shirt will be ‘blackened blue’, a very dark blue.”

Former Chelsea star comes out of retirement, says “I’ve listened to the call of our supporters”

Former Chelsea star Arjen Robben has sensationally come out of retirement to make an emotional return to FC Groningen.

The Dutchman man retired last summer after ten trophy-laden seasons with Bayern Munich.

But the 36-year-old spoke in a video on Twitter to say he is returning to boyhood club Groningen.

Robben came up through the youth teams there before playing two seasons from 2000-2002 in the first-team.

Robben said on FC Groningen’s official Twitter account: “I was 12 years old when I started playing in Groningen’s youth academy, I made my home debut against Feyenoord when I was 16.

“After two years I made a transfer to PSV Eindhoven. After a wonderful adventure of 18 years we’re coming home! Back to Groningen.

“We’re coming home during this difficult time of crisis, one that also hits FC Groningen. It’s great to see how everyone is supporting the club, I’ve supported the club as well and it made me think about what else I could do for our club.

“These past weeks I’ve had many conversations with club staff and maybe more than anything I’ve listened to the call of our supporters: Arjen, follow your heart!”

Leicester boss opens up on Chelsea target Ben Chilwell state of mind as he faces Blues in FA Cup on Sunday

Brendan Rodgers says Ben Chilwell is unfazed by the transfer speculation as Leicester prepare to host Chelsea in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Frank Lampard is desperate to sign a left-back this summer and has identified Chiwell as his top target in that position.

The Blues are confident they can strike a deal for a knockdown £50million, with the player keen to make the move.

“I have no worries at all,” said Rodgers when asked about Chilwell facing the Blues.

“Speculation and gossip is something you have to live with in this industry.

“He has good experiences now, Ben, and can deal with that. It is a part of the game and we know that.

“Ben has come back and he has been brilliant. He has come back and looks fresh.

“In the lockdown he has really pressed the re-set button again. He has been fit and his running ability has been great.

Rodgers added: “His defending has been good. You saw his goal he scored against Watford – it was a brilliant strike.”

La Liga top club gunning for Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa

Valencia are ready to test the water as they look to snap up Chelsea’s out-of-favour keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga on a two-year loan deal.

And Blues boss Frank Lampard is looking at Ajax stopper Andre Onana as his replacement.

Lamps has not been impressed with Kepa’s form this term and dropped him earlier this season as his world record £71.6million signing struggled to find the sort of displays which made him the top keeper in LaLiga.

Valencia know all too well the Spanish keeper’s capabilities from his time at Athletic Bilbao.

And if they can convince Stamford Bridge chiefs to let him come over for two years, by way of a loan fee and paying a hefty contribution to his wages, then Lamps could make a move for Onana.

If Chelsea agree to the two-year loan, Valencia would have an option to buy at the end of that, according to Madrid sports daily Marca.

Former Chelsea boss reveals his efforts to sign Timo Werner, explains why he’s excited to see German in Blues shirt

Roberto Di Matteo has revealed his attempts to sign Timo Werner, explaining why he is excited to see him in a Blues shirt.

The Germany international is billed to move to Stamford Bridge in July after Chelsea paid £47.5million RB Leipzig for the striker.

Di Matteo, who lifted the Champions League for Chelsea as a manager and won silverware in west London as a manager, stated he tried to sign the striker twice himself as a manager.

According to the Blues legend, it was later in his coaching career that he first spotted the huge potential of Werner in Germany.

The Italian stated that: “When I was at Schalke he was at Stuttgart and he was just coming on to the scene.”

“During the second part of the season, before I left, I was planning with my sporting director.

“I was saying I wanted to sign this guy, he’s good. He was young, quick, technically good. I said ‘can we not sign this boy Timo’.

“We didn’t in the end and then I resigned and so on. Then I went to Villa. Stuttgart, the season after, they got relegated, and so I enquired again to sign him, but then Leipzig signed him on.’

However, the disappointment of twice missing out on the chance to add Werner to his squad, at Schalke and Aston Villa, hasn’t dampened Di Matteo’s enthusiasm for the 24-year-old’s talents.

“I’m a big fan of his and he’s developed really, really well as well,” added the former midfielder.

“He’s a goal scorer, he scores goals, so he can guarantee a certain amount of goals for the team, which is very good, and he’s very pacey as well, he’s fast.”
