Victor Osimhen makes Napoli promise, reveals when he was hurt in his football career

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has vowed to help Napoli do well in both Italy and Europe next season, saying “
I want to help the club do well in the competition”.

The Napoli new boy scored 18 goals in his 38 matches for Lille in 2019-20 and continued to build on the great season at RSC Charleroi the year before.

But the 21-year-old Nigerian admitted he struggled to settle when he first arrived at VfL Worlsburg to start his European career in August 2018.

“When I arrived at Wolfsburg, everything was different compared to what I was used to,” he told Sport1 as cited by Football Italia.

“The food, the climate, the language, the way people treated me.

“I thought, will I get through this? But if I had stayed in Nigeria, I wouldn’t have been given a chance like the one they gave me in Germany.

“It was my first time in Europe. I was only 18 but didn’t have the time to adapt.”

He moved to Charleroi after one year with Die Wolfe but admitted he was low on confidence when both Zulte Waregem and Club Brugge said no.

“I was hurt when Zulte Waregem and Club Brugge rejected me. Then, one evening I received a call from my agent.

“He told me: ‘Charleroi want you, they want us to sign’. Because of my previous experience, I said I wouldn’t go but he convinced to accept.

“The love and the reception I got at Charleroi, helped me incredibly.”

Osimhen prepares for a new chapter with the Partenopei and wants to help Gennaro Gattuso’s men achieve success already in his first season at the San Paolo.

“I hope to take the next step through my experience at Napoli. I have been given the opportunity to come and be part of the history of a glorious club like the Azzurri, where great players like [Diego] Maradona, [Edinson] Cavani and [Gonzalo] Higuain have played before me.

“Next season we play in the Europa League and I want to help the club do well in the competition, as well as in the championship.”

Willian “upset and offended”

Willian has reportedly been left ‘upset and offended’ by how his time at Chelsea has come to an end.

Sky Sports claim Arsenal are set to confirm the signing of Willian on a free transfer.

The Brazilian is said to have agreed a three-year deal, with the Gunners beating Barcelona and Inter Miami to his signature.

But, according to ESPN, the forward felt as though the Blues lacked the desire to keep him.

This is despite the 31-year-old rejecting a two-year deal by Chelsea to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.

Willian is keen to remain in London, choosing to sign for Arsenal ahead of Barcelona and Inter Miami.

It has been stated that Willian wants to play under Mikel Arteta and work with his fellow Brazilian Edu at the Emirates.

French top club in pursuit of Chelsea defender

Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori is being targeted by French side Rennes, according to reports.

L’Equipe says the Ligue 1 outfit have contacted Chelsea to begin talks over a potential deal for the 22-year-old.

The report from France suggests the nature of a deal remains unclear, but a loan move would be more likely.

Lampard rates Tomori after managing him the last two years and although he may not be in his immediate plans he would be hard-pushed to sell the centre-back.

The Athletic previously reported a permanent deal is not in The Blues’ vision.

Tomori was last month linked with a loan move across London to West Ham to help Lampard swoop for Declan Rice – with talk he sees the Hammers man as a future John Terry figure.

Chelsea target Sergio Reguilon responds to potential Blues move

Chelsea target Sergio Reguilon has fuelled speculation of a potential switch from Real Madrid to Stamford Bridge.

While the La Liga defender insisted his thoughts are firmly fixed on completing his loan at Sevilla, he refused to rule out a transfer to England’s top flight.

When quizzed by Marca he replied: “Who knows what will happen?”

Reguilon added: “If my year at Sevilla had not been good, then this would not be happening. These teams would not ring.

“I’ve been saying since quarantine that until the season is over I won’t be talking about my future.

“I have no complaints about anything, about the city, the club, my colleagues.

“I feel very loved. Who knows what will happen in the future.”

HT Report: (Watch Benzema and Sterling’s goals)… Manchester City 1-1 Real Madrid

Manchester City and Real Madrid are level at the end of the first half after Karim Benzema cancelled out Raheem Sterling’s early goal.

Benzema scored a vital equaliser for the visitors in their Champions League last 16 clash at Manchester City.

Raheem Sterling’s close range finish put Pep Guardiola’s side in front after just nine minutes, following a mistake by Los Blancos centre back Raphael Varane.

That goal made it 1-0 on the night in City’s favour, with a 3-1 aggregate lead over Zinedine Zidane’s side at the Etihad Stadium.

However, the visitors showed their experience to rally quickly, with Benzema and Eden Hazard both bringing vital saves from City goal keeper Ederson.

With the 2018 champions beginning to showed their strength, Benzema headed them level just before the half hour mark.

Brazilian winger Rodrygo did brilliantly to get past Joao Cancelo and deliver a cross into the box, with Benzema climbing highest to power past Ederson.
