AC Milan reject offer to sign former free-scoring Chelsea striker

AC Milan have reportedly rejected offer to sign former Chelsea striker Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid.

Calciomercato.com, as cited by Football Italia, highlights that CEO Ivan Gazidis, technical director Paolo Maldini and sporting director Frederic Massara met last night to discuss the upcoming transfer market.

Atleti striker Diego Costa was among the possible targets, but the report claims it’s only an idea by Jorge Mendes that is unlikely to go through.

The outlet claims Milan plan to keep Zlatan Ibrahimovic at San Siro and rather search for a younger player to replace the Swede in the future.

The 31-year-old, capped 24 times by Spain, scored five times in 24 La Liga matches in 2019-20 and appeared seven times in the Champions League without finding the net.

Half-Time Report: (Watch Serge Gnabry’s fantastic brace) Lyon 0-2 Bayern Munich

Serge Gnabry has been fantastic for Bayern Munich in the first half, scoring two goals for the Bundesliga giants against Lyon.

Gnabry is only the second German player to net a brace in a Champions League semi-final, following current teammate Thomas Müller back in 2012-13

It was a slow start from the Bayern Munich as the French side had several opportunities to go ahead but clinical finishing from Gnabry is what separates the sides so far after his first, a stunning hit from the edge of the box, was followed by his awareness to be in the right place at the right time to tap home a rebound.

The former Arsenal player scored his first goal in the 18th minute through a stunning solo effort. He cut inside from the right channel before absolutely leathering it past a helpless Anthony Lopes.

Gnabry scored his second of the evening in the 33rd with Bayern Munich are cruising at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Robert Lewandowski made a real mess of his effort that Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes managed to parry away but there’s Gnabry arriving to finish the job from point-blank range.

Willian reveals David Luiz’s role in his Arsenal move

Former Chelsea forward Willian has revealed how his former teammate at Chelsea helped him in his Arsenal switch.

The Brazilian joined the north London club last week, signing a three-year deal to team up with his compatriot Luiz at Arsenal.

The 32-year-old moved to Arsenal as a free agent after the player and Chelsea failed to agree on the duration of a contract renewal.

Speaking to Arsenal.com about his move, Willian admitted he spoke to Luiz a lot about joining the Gunners.

He said: “He’s very happy. We played together in the national team, we played together at Chelsea, and now at Arsenal again. I think we can do great things together, I hope so, but I’m very happy to be with him again.

“He said, ‘Come to Arsenal, come to Arsenal, I want you to come!’ So that was the conversation. He is a very nice guy, a top player and I’m very excited to play with him again.

“Of course [he helped in the past], many times. Many times when I had difficult times at Chelsea he was helping me a lot. He is this kind of person that wants to help, especially young players without experience. He is the guy that helps everyone.”

Real Madrid star Luka Modric reveals secret meeting he held with Roman Abramovich on his yacht

Roman Abramovich held a secret meeting with Luka Modric on board his yacht as Chelsea tried to sign the Croatian.

Modric revealed the news in an extract of his autobiography published in The Guardian.

And the covert rendezvous in 2011, when Modric was still at Spurs, was kept under wraps.

The Blues owner said: “We know you are a quality player. I’d like you to sign for Chelsea.

“Do you think Tottenham will resist your transfer? Are they going to put up a fight?”

But Modric recalled telling him Spurs would put up a fight and sure enough Daniel Levy blocked a move before letting him leave for Real Madrid a year later.
