Man United legend disappointed over Chelsea signings, says “I wanted the players that Chelsea signed to go to United”

Gary Neville is miffed Chelsea have made the exact signings Manchester United should have completed this summer.

Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Xavier Mbuyamba, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr, Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz have all been recruited by the Blues, and a deal is close for Rennes goalkeeper Malang Sarr.

Frank Lampard also wants to sign Declan Rice from West Ham to complete his massive summer spend.

The Old Trafford legend has been disappointed by his former club’s transfer business so far, with Donny van de Beek the only arrival, report talkSport.

Netherlands international Van de Beek arrived from Ajax last week in a deal worth up to £40million, to provide further creativity and goal threat in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s midfield.

But no further signings have been made, in stark contrast to Chelsea bringing in SEVEN new players – with more arrivals to follow.

And Neville is jealous because Chelsea have completed the business Manchester United should have been doing this transfer window.

“A trophy and breaking that top two has to be the next step,” said Neville to The Guardian on Manchester United’s ambitions for the 2020/21 season.

“But that’s going to be difficult. Ole needs more players and support from the board to do that.

“When you look at the bench, the game changers aren’t there, the depth is not there. They definitely need a centre-back, a midfield player, a forward and a right winger, and potentially another defender, maybe a left-back too.

“I am disappointed because I wanted the players that Chelsea signed to go to United.”

Chelsea reject two Inter Milan stars for N’Golo Kante in swap deal

Chelsea have rejected offers from Inter Milan for N’Golo Kante involving Christian Eriksen and Marcelo Brozovic.

Lampard said in June he wanted to keep Kante and Antonio Conte knows it will not be easy to prise the France international from his old club.

The Italians want Kante, 28, to anchor their midfield this season and have made the Frenchman their primary target.

Chelsea, however, would rather sell Jorginho ahead of Kante and have, according to the Daily Mail, no interest in either Eriksen or Brozovic.

Inter have a limited budget and will have to be creative in their offers as they look to streamline a vast squad.

Former Tottenham midfielder Eriksen has failed to have the desired impact since his £18m move last January and Inter are willing to offload him even though the Dane insisted this week he was happy in Italy.

Chelsea are well stocked in midfield themselves though would like to add a younger holding player with West Ham’s Declan Rice and Lille’s Boubakary Soumare among those fancied by Frank Lampard.

Jorginho, 28, is considered more expendable and, after their outlay this summer, Lampard recognises the club have to consider ways of balancing the books.

Revealed: How Arsenal missed out on Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique

Former Arsenal scout Francis Cagigao has opened up about the Gunners’ pursuit of Barcelona pair Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique.

Cagigao revealed that work permit problems scuppered any chances Arsenal had of signing Messi, while Pique was “inches away from signing” but ended up joining Manchester United instead.

Speaking to European Football expert Guillem Balague on his YouTube channel, Cagigao said: “Arsene has said that at one stage we were close to signing Leo Messi and although I wouldn’t go so far as to say we were close, we were there or thereabouts.

“Discussions took place with his representative, but he had an issue with his work permit which at the time wasn’t even clear in Spain where he was, so that was discarded.

“It’s public knowledge that Gerard Pique was inches away from signing a contract with us, but he joined Manchester United six months later.

“There was some contractual disagreement between the club and Gerard’s representatives, and it didn’t go forward because of that.”

Rennes chief reveals what Edouard Mendy told club about Chelsea move

Chelsea expect to complete the £25m signing of Edouard Mendy in the next few days after Rennes confirmed he has asked to leave.

Senegal goalkeeper Mendy wants to join the Blues and talks between the clubs over the 28-year-old are now in the final stages.

The 28-year-old has agreed personal terms with Chelsea ahead of his £25m transfer move from Rennes, according to RMC Sport.

Chelsea want the Senegal goalkeeper to come in and put pressure on Kepa Arrizabalaga, who is staying at Stamford Bridge despite boss Frank Lampard’s doubts about the Spaniard.

Rennes president Nicolas Holveck said: “Discussions have started with Chelsea for Édouard Mendy.

“I can understand his desire, he told us he wants to leave. But for now there is no agreement and for a transfer you need an agreement of the three parties.”

The French club have already lined up his replacement in Granada’s Rui Silva, paving the way for his exit.

And Rennes captain Damien Da Silva has already ‘confirmed’ the deal is likely to happen.

“We are a little selfish, we don’t want to lose Edouard Mendy,” he told Telefoot. “But it’s part of football and the transfer market.

“He’s a great goalkeeper who deserves what happens to him.”
