Revealed: How Frank Lampard angrily tore into Marcos Alonso in front of his teammates after West Brom match

Reports have emerged stating how Frank Lampard tore into Marcos Alonso in front of his team-mates after the Spaniard went to watch the second half of Saturday’s 3-3 draw at West Brom alone on the Chelsea bus.

The Athletic claims insiders told them Lampard was “the angriest they’ve ever seen him” after Alonso, who was subbed at half-time, made for the bus instead of sitting among with other subs in The Hawthorns stands.

Alonso was apparently seen returning to the pitchside seats about 15 minutes into the second half.

But it is believed he had originally sat on the Chelsea team bus by himself after taking a shower following his half-time hook.

According to The Sun, Lampard pulled Alonso up in front of the rest of his squad after the game, claiming the left-back had damaged team unity by acting selfishly.

A source told The Athletic: “The players were saying they have never seen the manager like this.

“It kicked off after the game and he was going made at Alonso.

“Some were talking about how they’d be surprised if he plays for Chelsea ever again.”

Alonso was at fault for two of West Brom’s three first-half goals.

And after being replaced by right-back Cesar Azpilicueta at the break, he is now set to lose his spot altogether to new £50million arrival Ben Chilwell.

Jurgen Klopp tips Chelsea to be involved in Premier League title challenge

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reckons Chelsea will challenge for the Premier League title this season.

As reported by the Liverpool Echo, he said: “The Premier League and these teams with what what they do is too much and too good that the season isn’t decided before started, so it doesn’t just work like this.”

Before he added: “Nobody is safe of these kinds of things and so we have to work incredibly hard to sort it out, but the other teams have no influence.

“When we face them we want to beat them, that’s all we can do, but, yes often it is an open race.

“Chelsea will be there 100 per cent, United will be there, Arsenal and Tottenham will always be there.”

Frank Lampard told to switch to 3-4-3

Frank Lampard has been urged to switch to a back three to help combat Chelsea’s leaky defence.

Former Arsenal player Paul Merson wants centre-back Antonio Rudiger back into the squad.

Merson told The Star: “Frank Lampard needs to change his tactics or Chelsea can kiss goodbye to Antonio Rudige.

“Chelsea have got five centre-backs and that’s too many unless you’re playing three every week – and I think that’s what Lampard should do.

“At the moment he’s playing a back four and someone is always going to miss out. Right now it’s Rudiger, which surprises me.

“I thought Kurt Zouma or Andreas Christensen would go this summer because Rudiger is better than both of them.

“But he can’t even get on the bench. If that carries on he’ll be gone. He won’t want to stick around to be fifth choice.

“But if Lampard switches to three at the back with wing-backs, he solves the problem and gets the best out of Thiago Silva, who won’t be so exposed in that system.”

Frank Lampard reveals his advice to Callum Hudson-Odoi

Frank Lampard has called on Callum Hudson-Odoi to consistently produce the performance that spearheaded Chelsea’s comeback from three goals down to draw away to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

The young winger came off the bench at half-time and scored the second goal in an exciting comeback that was still not sufficient to mask the defensive mistakes of the opening period.

Hudson-Odoi had struggled for end product in the midweek Carabao Cup win over Barnsley but given another chance to impress at The Hawthorns, he stated a convincing case for more regular minutes.

Lampard was impressed but said that for Hudson-Odoi must maintain that level going forward.

“Callum gave me everything I asked and wanted from him in terms of his ability to go one v one, trying to take people on and he got his goal,” the head coach told football.london.

“That’s what Callum needs to do. That’s the sort of impact he can have for us and it has to be consistent. He gave himself a great platform now to continue in that vain. He’ll be very important for us if he does.”

Thiago Silva responds to criticisms against his horror show during West Brom match

Chelsea’s new signing Thiago Silva had a horror show against West Brom and has apologised to fans.

Tammy Abraham struck in stoppage time to complete a spectacular second-half comeback for Chelsea at West Bromwich Albion.

Callum Robinson’s arrowed finish gave West Brom a fourth-minute lead and the striker capitalised on a loose touch from Chelsea debutant and captain Thiago Silva to double the lead on 25 minutes.

West Brom had a third two minutes later as Kyle Bartley converted Darnell Furlong’s flick at a corner.

Mason Mount’s long-range shot gave Chelsea hope 10 minutes after half-time. Callum Hudson-Odoi added a second after a neat exchange with Kai Havertz.

And three minutes into time added on, Abraham tapped in Sam Johnstone’s parry as Chelsea came from 3-0 behind to avoid defeat for the first time in the Premier League.
