Lampard clears air over penalty row between Azpilicueta and Tammy Abraham during Crystal Palace match

Tammy Abraham was left fuming after his opportunity to score from the penalty spot against Crystal Palace was stolen by his captain.

Cesar Azpilicueta swiped the ball off the Chelsea striker after the Blues won a penalty and gave it to Jorginho, who had already scored one.

The Blues were already 3-0 up and Abraham, 23, wanted to get his name on the scoresheet.

Instead Spanish skipper Azpilicueta marched over to rip the ball out of his hands and give it to designated taker Jorginho.

Despite seeing the midfielder slot the ball into the back of the net to make it 4-0, Abraham was still seething – refusing to smile despite his team scoring.

Abraham had won Chelsea’s first penalty with Kai Havertz being tripped for the second.

Frank Lampard told BT Sport after the game: “It’s been dealt with. No problems, no problems it’s been dealt with.

“I want leaders and I’ll allow mine a bit of conflict.

“If Tammy wanted to take it because he wants a goal or whatever it was, the he’s been put in his place a little bit.

“I appreciate his eagerness because his performance deserved a goal, but those are the rules.

“You don’t jump ahead on the list at any moment unless somebody’s got a hat-trick and we’re so comfortable that I decide. So it’s dealt with.”

Blues legends explains why Thiago Silva “could be Chelsea’s signing of the season”

Chelsea legend Joe Cole has identified why Thiago Silva could be the signing of the season for Frank Lampard’s side after his arrival this summer.

The former PSG star played his part as Chelsea kept a first clean sheet of the season against Crystal Palace, with the Brazilian performing well alongside Kurt Zouma in the Blues defence at Stamford Bridge.

The 4-0 win against Palace was only his second Premier League appearance for Chelsea, after making his debut in the 3-3 draw with West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns last weekend.

The Blues have been by far the biggest spenders in the Premier League this season, splashing in excess of £200m to rejuvenate the side.

While Thiago Silva isn’t the addition that may jump out from their plethora of additions, Cole believes he could be an invaluable addition.

“Thiago Silva is a fantastic signing,” he told BT Sport as cited by football.london.

“One thing we all talked about with Chelsea last year was the quality of the youngsters, the energy, but there were times in the season when there was a little bit of naivety in the back four.

“Thiago coming in, you look around Europe and there isn’t a better veteran centre-back, someone who can come in and not only perform, his job will be to help the players around him on the pitch and off the pitch by setting the tone of what winning is all about.

“I think Thiago Silva, as soon as he settles, could be the signing of the season for Chelsea.”

Chelsea flop Bakayoko undergoes Napoli medical

Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko is undergoing his medical checks with Napoli ahead of his loan move to the San Paolo.

The Frenchman, a former Milan loanee, according to Football Italia, landed in Roma this morning and was taken straight to Villa Stuart Clinic to begin his medical checks with the Azzurri.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Napoli will pay € 2 million for the player’s season loan. His € 3.5m-a-year salary will be partially paid by Chelsea.

He will reunite with coach Gennaro Gattuso, who worked with him during his loan to Milan in 2018-19.

Milan had been in talks for a return to San Siro earlier in the summer, but Chelsea wanted €25-30m.

Napoli, on the other hand, seem content to accept a dry loan without option or obligation to buy.

Lampard responds to Bayern Munich move for Hudson-Odoi, says “Bayern might have declared their interest”

Frank Lampard admitted he cannot say for certain that Callum Hudson-Odoi will not make a deadline-beating move to Bayern Munich.

The Chelsea chief insists Hudson-Odoi, who made his first Prem start of the season in yesterday’s 4-0 win over Crystal Palace, is a key part of his plans.

Yet Bayern also declared their interest in the England attacker and are desperate to sign him.

Hudson-Odoi, 19, only signed a five-year deal at the Blues 12 months ago and Lampard will hold talks with him before tomorrow’s deadline.

Lampard said: “There is no definitive answer — by Monday we will know the answer.

“Bayern might have declared their interest, which is one thing, but Callum is absolutely part of my plans.

“What Callum wants comes into consideration. He is our player and everything has to be right for everyone.”
