Bayern Munich chief opens up on club’s failed move for Callum Hudson-Odoi

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has spoken about Bayern’s pursuit of Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The Bundesliga club made a second attempt to sign the 19-year-old over the summer, but once again fell short in their pursuit of the Englishman.

Hudson-Odoi was pursued by the Champions League winners back in 2018, only for Chelsea to convince the player to stay, while efforts to take him on loan for the 2020/21 season with an option to buy also fell short.

Speaking to Sport Bild (via Metro), said: “There are transfers that come to the point where you have to say: ‘We have to leave this immediately’,” Salihamidzic said.

“It is all the more important that one thinks about alternatives or alternative paths right from the start.

“We negotiated with Chelsea but there was no agreement. That happens.”

Chelsea flop Bakayoko reveals Gennaro Gattuso’s role in his Napoli move

Tiemoue Bakayoko reveals coach Gennaro Gattuso ‘convinced’ him of moving to Napoli and hopes to be involved already on Saturday against Atalanta.

The former Milan midfielder was linked with a return to San Siro, but ended up reuniting with Gattuso at the San Paolo instead.

“I’m very happy to be here, the team has welcomed me in an amazing way,” Bakayoko said at a press conference as cited by Football Italia.

“I’m very happy with my teammates, I’m happy with my new home here.

“Gattuso convinced me and I’m very happy to join a great team. I also want to thank Gattuso for letting me come here.

Kalidou Koulibaly stayed in Naples and with Victor Osimhen arriving in Naples, but the French midfielder believes it’s too early to ‘talk about the Scudetto’ and says he will do everything he can to play against Atalanta this weekend.

“We will obviously fight to be up there. It’s not time to talk about the Scudetto, our target is to take one game at a time and try to fight for three points.

“I really want to play, since I haven’t been on the pitch for several months. I’m giving it my all, on Saturday I would like to be on the pitch, but it depends on the coach.

“Atalanta are a team that play very well and are quick.”
