Victor Osimhen, Bakayoko return to training

Reports in Italy state that Tiemoue Bakayoko is in line for a slot in Napoli’s squad for the weekend Serie A cracker against AC Milan.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Victor Osimhen trained individually but Tiemoue Bakayoko has returned to train with the rest of the Napoli squad.

Good news for the Partenopei coach Gennaro Gattuso, as Bakayoko, who had reportedly developed a fever and sat out training this week, returns to the fold ahead of the match against his former club Milan.

Osimhen, who returned injured from international duty with Nigeria, worked separately and is not expected to make it in time for Sunday’s match.

Bakayoko, who was linked with a return to the Rossoneri this summer, moved on loan from Chelsea to the Azzurri and has since played four Serie A games for Napoli.

The 26-year-old has appeared six times in total, including the two games in the Europa League this term.

League leaders Milan travel to the San Paolo on Sunday, three points clear of Napoli after seven games.

Frank Lampard talks about fear of losing his job at Chelsea

Frank Lampard is not afraid of getting sacked despite Chelsea’s unenviable record of sacking their managers.

The club’s owner Roman Abramovich has, however, given Lampard his full backing – splashing out more than £200million to turn Chelsea into Premier League title contenders. But that money comes with an expectation to succeed, with the famously demanding owner ruthlessly axing a succession of world class managers.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Newcastle with the Blues fifth in the Premier League, he said: “The lucky thing for me, without trying to sound too comfortable, is my football career put me in a decent position.

“So, if that job is taken away from me, as long as I go in with every minute thinking, ‘Can I do the best job?’

“I genuinely think if it got taken away from me, you get the sack, you can’t get another job – if I’ve done the best as I can, I will be pretty happy.

“I’ll be disappointed and look back at the million things I could have done better, but as it stands now, what’s in front of me, I’m thinking about our next game.”

Lampard is fully aware of the advantage being a club legend has given him.

“Not many people get a job at Chelsea after one year at Derby,” he added.

“It’s clear playing 13 years at the club helped me get the job, but also in my own way I think I deserve it for the years I put in as a player and I’ve taken things on board and I know the club and I’m going to absolutely do my best to do well so I think in that situation I understand the pitfalls.

“I had to put my ego at the door a bit and say I might ruin what might have been achieved in 13 years to a degree because if it doesn’t go well I will be judged harshly and very quickly.”

Revealed: How Arsenal missed out on free-scoring Liverpool star

Arsenal missed out on signing Liverpool’s Diogo Jota after he turned down ‘several offers’ to instead join Atletico Madrid in 2016, reports say.

The Portuguese forward was making a name for himself in his native country with Pacos Ferreira at the time.

And the Gunners – then managed by Arsene Wenger – were among those believed to have sent scouts to watch him play.

And they would later rival West Ham in a transfer battle which eventually ended with Jota joining Atletico in Spain, according to The Athletic.

Jota, 23, said: “Atletico’s way of presenting their offer seemed serious to me.

“The financial offer was the same as the others. I liked how the club’s owner went about it.”

David Luiz, Dani Ceballos forced to apologize after training ground bust-up

David Luiz and Dani Ceballos have been forced to apologise to their team-mates after their pair were reportedly involved in a training ground scuffle last week.

Ceballos was left with a cut on his face after tempers boiled over when the Spanish midfielder launched a late tackle on the Brazilian.

The pair allegedly squared up last Friday at the club’s London Colney HQ with ex-Chelsea star Luiz lashing out and scratching the skin of his teammate.

Ceballos, 24, jumped up to confront the defender before fellow Arsenal players jumped in to stop things getting out of hand.

SunSport understands the Gunners are relaxed about the clash, believing it was nothing more than the kind of thing that happens on training grounds across the country.

Ceballos – who is on loan at Arsenal from Real Madrid – has denied the claims.

Both Luiz and Ceballos also took the heat out of the issue by reporting back for training on Tuesday and apologising to the rest of the squad.
