Diego Costa expected to be fit for Chelsea clash

Diego Costa should be available for Atletico Madrid’s Champions League tie against his old club Chelsea after recovering from deep vein thrombosis.

The Spain striker was diagnosed with the nasty condition three weeks ago.

The condition involves a blood clot forming in a deep vein in the body, usually in a leg or the pelvis.

Costa, 32, had only just returned from a muscle injury when his latest ailment struck.

And he also suffered from Covid-19 during the summer, which is thought to have possibly affected his latest medical condition.

Costa is yet to feature in the Champions League this season, and has appeared just five times in LaLiga.

He has been absent since November 8 and the broadcaster reports he flew to Antwerp, Belgium, to speed up the recovery time.

He will work with the Belgian national team’s physio Lieven Maesschalck, who has previously helped Napoli with Dries Mertenz, Faouzi Ghoulam and Amin Younes.

The decision har been taken in agreement with the medical staff at Napoli and the 21-year-old is not expected to be back before Christmas.

Frank Lampard told what to do get the best out of Kai Havertz

Kai Havertz will come good at Chelsea if Frank Lampard plays him in the right position.

That is according to Mario Melchiot and the former Blues defender has tracked Havertz for some time – with down the middle seen as his best position.

He told talkSPORT: “I knew Kai Havertz before he came to Chelsea. I knew Kai was a great talent.

“The only difference I see is that in the system Chelsea play he comes from the outside, but in Germany he was a No.10 or a striker. He had more freedom because the team was built around him.

“When he comes to Chelsea, he’s not going to get that! They have a player that has to get used to a certain way of playing and that takes time.

“People don’t expect him to need more time because of the price tag; people want him to fire straight away.”

(Watch Highlights) Romelu Lukaku goal hands Inter Milan win over 10-man Napoli (Match Report)

Inter got the three points thanks to a Romelu Lukaku penalty, but Napoli largely dominated the game even when down to 10 men after Lorenzo Insigne saw red for dissent.

There was only one point separating these sides, and that was the point docked from Napoli for the cancelled trip to Juventus, a matter that is still subject to appeal.

Arturo Vidal, Alexis Sanchez, Radja Nainggolan and Matias Vecino missed out for the hosts, while Victor Osimhen was still suffering from a dislocated shoulder.

Napoli had started the brighter of the two teams, but when trying to keep the ball in play for a cross, Dries Mertens landed awkwardly and seemed to sprain his ankle as he went down. The Belgian was in tears getting treatment and the ankle was visibly swollen.

Moments later, Lautaro Martinez fired inches wide after Nicolò Barella intercepted a poor Kalidou Koulibaly pass.

Andrea Petagna replaced Mertens and tried to set up Piotr Zielinski, but the Poland international drilled off target.

Romelu Lukaku nodded wide from a couple of yards, but it wouldn’t have counted anyway for an earlier Lautaro Martinez push.

The second half tempo was also still sluggish and when Hirving Lozano did get a great chance to shin it over, he was probably offside anyway.

Napoli thought they had finally taken the lead with a sensational Insigne back-heel flick, but Samir Handanovic somehow managed the reaction save from point-blank range.

Moments later, the game turned on its head. David Ospina stuck up a hand and leg to catch Matteo Darmian for a clear penalty. Insigne was infuriated and sent off for insulting the referee, so Napoli were down to 10 men and Romelu Lukaku converted the penalty to put Inter in front.

Napoli weren’t to be deterred and Lozano pulled it back for Matteo Politano, but Handanovic made an extraordinary flying save on his former teammate under the bar.

It was impossible to tell Napoli were down to 10, as they continued to get the best chances, Politano seeing another attempt deflected onto the side-netting and Handanovic forced to use his foot to deny Giovanni Di Lorenzo from point-blank range.
