Liverpool goalkeeper scores incredible injury-time header to hand Reds vital win over West Brom

Alisson Becker was the hero at the Hawthorns as the Liverpool goalkeeper helped the Reds to claim the three points at stake in the on West Brom.

The Sam Allardyce side looked to have denied the Reds a vital victory on Sunday and even had a winner of their own denied by a harsh offside call.

The Reds then laid siege to the Hawthorns goal and goalkeeper Alisson rose highest to meet a 95th-minute corner and earn a famous three points, thereby becoming an unlikely hero, Alisson.

It was surely the Reds’ final chance to snatch the win and so it proved as Alisson rose to glance Trent Alexander-Arnold’s delivery into the far corner of the net to send the away side into delirium.

In an example of extraordinary timing, it is the first occasion in which a goalkeeper has scored a competitive goal for Liverpool in their entire history, dating back to 1892.

The stunning moment takes the Reds just a point and a place behind Chelsea in fourth and three points worse off than third-placed Leicester with two games to go.

That the Blues and Foxes face each other in their next league game gives Jurgen Klopp’s side a huge opportunity to take control of their own destiny in the race for Champions League qualification when they travel to Burnley on Wednesday.

Things had got off to a terrible start for the reigning champions at the Hawthorns with Hal Robson-Kanu capping his first Premier League start since December 2017 with a neat side-foot finish to give West Brom the lead.

A typically incisive Mohamed Salah finish brought the visitors level, with the Egyptian’s low shot inside the far post taking him to 22 goals for the season, level with Harry Kane at the top of the scoring charts.

With Roberto Firmino firing against the woodwork, Sadio Mane seeing a finish ruled out for offside and others profligate in front of goal, it looked as though the Reds had blown their chance.

The Brazilian goalkeeper popped up with a stunning last-minute winner to earn Liverpool a huge boost in the race for the Champions League.

N’Golo Kante “cheats a lot”- Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba says Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante “cheats a lot”, has talking up his fellow Frenchman’s talents, adding that he will do whatever it takes to win at anything.

Kante has established himself as one of the top midfielders in Europe since joining Leicester City from Caen in 2015, helping the Foxes win the Premier League title before also going on to lift the trophy with Chelsea.

The 30-year-old has a World Cup winners’ medal to his name too, having been part of the triumphant 2018 France squad alongside Pogba, who has now revealed that his compatriot will do whatever it takes to win, even if it means bending the rules.

The Manchester United talisman told beIN Sports, via Goal, of his international colleague: “He cheats a lot. A lot. At card games, board games. Honestly, I’m telling the truth. He cheats.

“He says he doesn’t cheat, but he does. He uses cunning. He’s a smart kid, N’Golo. But it’s okay. You have to love him.

“He’s the most beloved soccer player in the history of football. You’ve got to love him, you cannot hate him, it is not possible.

“He is humble, kind, professional. He will never complain, he will work.”

Pogba added on Kante’s footballing ability: “He’s got everything. He’s good technically, with a good passing quality, and he’s everywhere on the pitch.

“I even say he appears out of the ground! You don’t see him, and – poof – he’s out! He gets the ball, he has the finish. He’s everywhere.

“To have a player like that by your side, what more can you ask for?”

Zidane tells Real Madrid players he’s leaving club

Reports in Spain claim that Zinedine Zidane has told the dressing room that he’s leaving Real Madrid at the end of the season.

According to Marca, the meeting took place last Saturday after Chelsea eliminated Los Blancos from the Champions League, just before they played Sevilla in La Liga.

The Frenchman did it after training, delaying the start of his press conference. Zidane has eight days left in charge of Madrid, two games to play to win his third league title.

The decision has been long-pondered and is firm, Football Espana report.

Zidane believes his cycle at Madrid is over and the time has come for him to step aside. It’s not as surprising as the first time he left the club, which came as a bolt from the blue. Zidane has refused to clarify his future for the past two months, but dropped serious hints that his time at the club was coming to an end in yesterday’s press conference.

The Frenchman will leave the Santiago Bernabeu with either eleven or 12 titles to his name, depending on whether he leads Madrid to the league title this season or not.

Los Blancos face Athletic Bilbao today before playing Villarreal on the final day, games they have to win and hope Atletico Madrid drop points to retain the title. Only Miguel Munoz, who took 14, has won more honours at the club.

Madrid’s focus has now switched to finding the ideal successor. Raul, currently in charge of Castilla, is said to be the best placed to step up, although former Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri and soon-to-be former German national team coach Joachim Low are also in the picture.
