Chelsea finally reach agreement with AC Milan over Blues star

AC Milan have finally reached an agreement with Chelsea for Olivier Giroud, claim Sky Sport Italia, at a cost of €1m plus add-ons.

They had hoped to sign the veteran France international as a free agent even after Chelsea activated their option to extend his contract by one more season.

Negotiations continued behind the scenes for weeks and it’s now reported they have at last come to some agreement.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the transfer fee is just €1m, with a further €1m due if Milan qualify for the Champions League or if Giroud makes a certain number of appearances. Certainly nothing too extraordinary, but it’s a win on principle for Chelsea considering the rumors of us willing to let Giroud go for free despite signing him to a one-year contract extension back in April.

It’s more than the Rossoneri wanted to pay, but with Zlatan Ibrahimovic injured, they need to lock down their primary transfer target.

He had long ago agreed a two-year contract worth €3.5m per season.

Giroud turns 35 in September and has been at Chelsea since January 2018, before that at their London rivals Arsenal.

He scored 11 goals in 31 competitive games for Chelsea last season, while he has 46 in 110 senior caps for France.
