Olivier Giroud arrives in Italy to seal AC Milan move

July 15th, 2021 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Olivier Giroud is in Italy to seal his £2million move to AC Milan from Chelsea.

The ex-Arsenal striker, 34, was pictured arriving in the fashion capital of the world on Thursday wearing a Milan-branded face mask.

And having already agreed personal terms on a two-year contract, the Frenchman’s transfer is expected to be confirmed on Friday.

Chelsea gave permission for Giroud to fly to Italy after accepting a £2m offer from Stefano Pioli’s side.

The Blues triggered an automatic year-long extension in Giroud’s contract earlier this year to prevent him from joining Milan on a free transfer.

But with all parties still eager to do business, Chelsea have got a nominal fee and Giroud will now be lining up in Milan’s famous red-and-black kit.

It remains to be seen how the World Cup winner fits into Pioli’s starting XI, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic already at the club.

However, it appears that both could play in the same team after Milan legend and technical director Paolo Maldini branded Giroud a ‘champion’.

July 15th, 2021 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Crystal Palace are closing in on the signing of Marc Guehi from Chelsea and the fee could reach as high as £20million.

The England Under-21 star is having a medical today and is set to sign a five-year contract with the South London club.

Guehi, 21, had an impressive season last term while on loan at Swansea, where he played 45 games and helped the Welsh side reach the Championship play-offs.

His expected signing will continue Palace’s flurry of transfer business this month after finally appointing a new manager in Patrick Vieira.

Winger Michael Olise, 19, has been poached from Reading for £8million, while third-choice goalkeeper Remi Matthews has joined on a free transfer.

New contracts are expected for defenders Joel Ward and Gary Cahill, but more signings are in the pipeline as sporting director Dougie Freedman rejuvenates an ageing squad.

Manchester City switch to Chelsea’s potential alternative if Erling Haaland’s move fails

July 15th, 2021 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Man City’s hunt for a new elite striker appears to have switched to Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.

The Premier League champions lost legendary frontman Sergio Aguero this summer to Barcelona leaving them desperate for reinforcements.

Pep Guardiola’s No1 target is Tottenham’s wantaway England skipper Harry Kane.

But a £100m transfer offer for the 27-year-old was rejected by Spurs prior to Euro 2020 with the North London club determined to keep their talisman.

That has led City to seek out alternative options and the Daily Mail claims they are monitoring Lewandowski’s contract situation.

Chelsea are reportedly looking at Lewandowski as potential alternative if their effort to acquire the services of Erling Haaland fails at the end of the day.

The Polish hitman has two years remaining on his £300,000-plus a week deal at Munich but has still not signed a new one.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Man United suffer blow as Barcelona, Atletico Madrid agree swap deal over Saul, Griezmann

July 15th, 2021 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Reports in Spain claim Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are on the verge of a swap deal which will see Antoine Griezmann returns to the Wanda Metropolitano and Saul comes to Camp Nou.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool have all registered their interest, but could be gazumped by Barca’s willingness to let Griezmann go.

The deal seemed highly unlikely only a few weeks ago but it’s now looking like a real possibility according to Marca.

Barcelona need to free up space on their exorbitant wage bill. Griezmann, despite performing well, is a high-value asset, a sacrificial lamb.

Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay are two ready-made replacements.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona and Atletico are now in advanced talks, although the former want money included as well as Saul.

The midfielder played with Griezmann at Atleti, but wants a new challenge.

Marca, however, reports the deal could still fall down over Griezmann’s wage demands, which Atletico may struggle to match.

The Frenchman earns £345,000-a-week star at Barcelona.

They also claim that Barcelona initially wanted Joao Felix, the man that replaced their current No7 in 2019, to be included in the deal.

But Atletico refused, instead opting to offer Saul.

July 15th, 2021 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Chelsea are reportedly snubbing all advances for Tammy Abraham because they want to use him to help sign Erling Haaland.

Norwegian Haaland is wanted by Blues and is their No1 summer transfer target ahead of Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku.

Borussia Dortmund have already agreed to sell Jadon Sancho to Manchester United.

And they are determined to hold on to the 20-year-old striker until at least next summer.

However, the Daily Mirror claims Chelsea hope the inclusion of England international Abraham could be key in their pursuit.

The Chelsea ace is wanted by a host of Premier League clubs after falling out of favour with Thomas Tuchel.

Revealed: Why Napoli want to call off move for Chelsea’s Emerson as Serie A turn attention to Getafe defender

July 15th, 2021 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Napoli are turning towards Getafe left-back Mathias Olivera as a cheaper alternative to Emerson Palmieri of Chelsea, according to Sky Sport Italia.

New coach Luciano Spalletti has requested Emerson, who impressed for Italy at UEFA EURO 2020 when taking over from injured Leonardo Spinazzola.

However, the asking price from Chelsea remains well over €20m, considerably more than the Partenopei are prepared to offer.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Napoli are instead turning towards a cheaper alternative in the form of Mathias Olivera.

The 23-year-old Getafe left-back is Uruguayan and can also play in a more advanced role down the left side of midfield.

His contract with Getafe runs to June 2023 and the asking price is reported to be circa €15-18m.

This would not be a huge saving on Emerson, but Olivera does have much lower salary demands and at only 23 is more of an investment than Emerson, who will turn 27 next month.
