Jose Mourinho opens up on Tammy Abraham’s move from Chelsea

Jose Mourinho has praised Tammy Abraham for showing ‘ambition’ by leaving Chelsea for Roma, saying: “It’s always tough for an English player to leave his country.”

Abraham was signed from Chelsea for €40m plus bonuses, although only €5m of that will be paid now, the rest spread out over several years.

“I have to say the general manager and owners have been brilliant,” said Mourinho on Roma TV.

“The reality is that we started pre-season thinking we had Dzeko and what happened was a bit of a surprise for all of us.

“In an incredibly difficult market and in a financial situation that is difficult for every, or more precisely, almost every club, having the willingness, the ambition, the respect for the fans’ emotions and reacting in this way after losing Dzeko and bringing in Tammy Abraham was a real coup.

“I prefer to say wait and see for Tammy, but I say that with total confidence. I’ve known him since he was a boy. He never played for me, because he was a 14, 15, 16-year-old when I was at Chelsea, but I know him very well.

“I know him as a player, a person and in terms of mentality. It is always tough for an English player to leave his country and the Premier League, and that says so much about him. If you leave the Premier League, it’s because you are ambitious, because you want to get back into your national team, because you want to play at the World Cup and win outside of England, where not many English players have had brilliant careers.

“He comes here with that ambition and we hope to see his best qualities as a player. With Tammy, Eldor Shomurodov and Borja Mayoral, we have attacking options that I’m very pleased about.

“We don’t have the experience you might see at Juventus with Cristiano Ronaldo, at Milan with Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, given they are all well-established, but in terms of potential, I couldn’t be happier with the players we have.”

Basketball legend Michael Jordan makes £5million from Lionel Messi’s PSG move in just one week

Michael Jordan has made £5million from Lionel Messi’s move to Paris Saint-Germain in just one week.

Shirts sold out online in just half an hour, with queues weaving around the French capital the next morning as supporters desperately tried to get into the club shop.

Incredibly, PSG have raked in £100m from Messi jersey sales in the past week.

And NBA legend Jordan has been a huge beneficiary of that, raking in £5m for himself.

The Jordan brand is the kit manufacturer of PSG.

As part of their partnership, the US company takes home five per cent of all jersey sales.

Former Chelsea striker QUITS club after just 48 minutes

Demba Ba’s Swiss role has quickly gone stale … with the ex-Chelsea striker quitting FC Lugano after just 48 MINUTES.

Former West Ham and Newcastle ace Ba joined the Super League outfit in June as a free agent after leaving Istanbul Basaksehir.

According to The Sun, Senegal international Ba made three cameo appearances for Lugano, amassing under an hour’s worth of playing time.

But the 36-year-old has now left the south Switzerland club following a change of ownership.

US businessman Joe Mansueto, the owner of MLS side Chicago Fire, has newly taken charge at the Stadio Cornaredo.

Local broadcaster RSI reported that Ba has departed the third-placed Super League club and returned to his home city Paris.

The striker remains one of the greatest nightmares in Liverpool’s recent history.

Ba exploited a Steven Gerrard slip to score Chelsea’s opener in a 2-0 win at Anfield in April 2014.

Antonio Conte among favourites to take over Arsenal if Mikel Arteta is fired

Ex-Inter and Chelsea coach Antonio Conte is among the favourites to take over at Arsenal should Mikel Arteta be sacked.

Arteta’s position had already been somewhat tense after last season, but became even more troubled after losing the Premier League opener 2-0 away to newly-promoted Brentford.

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers is the favourite, according to The Sun, with Conte following on.

Conte won the Scudetto with Inter after a 10-year wait, but terminated his contract by mutual consent after concerns over their transfer strategy.

His fears proved to be founded, as Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku have since been sold to PSG and Chelsea respectively.

It would be a return to London for Conte, who won the Premier League at Chelsea.

He had also been in negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur over the summer, but wanted big spending at the club to match his ambitions.

As part of his contract termination with Inter, Conte cannot take charge of another Italian club this season.

Kylian Mbappe makes PSG U-turn, tells friends about career decision as Real Madrid circle

Kylian Mbappe has reportedly informed his Paris Saint-Germain team-mates that he WILL be playing alongside them and Lionel Messi this season.

It has been widely speculated that the French superstar was heading for the PSG exit this summer but he’s now put those rumours to bed, according to AS.

Despite his plans to stay put in Paris for the next year, the 22-year old does still want to leave the club, AS claim.

Mbappe’s preferred destination is Real Madrid and it’s likely that he’ll head there when his contract runs out next summer on a free transfer.

PSG will reportedly let him go as they plan to bring in Cristiano Ronaldo to replace Mbappe.

And they won’t have to spend a penny on the 36-year-old either as his Juventus contract also runs out next year.

Official: Tammy Abraham signs for Roma, receives his favourite jersey Number, reveals why he joined Serie A club

New signing Tammy Abraham has been given the No. 9 jersey at Roma and looks forward to helping the Giallorossi ‘get to the level where they should be’.

The player has signed a five-year deal with the Giallorossi and said he was convinced by the club’s desire to bring him to Trigoria.

“You can sense when a club really wants you – and Roma made their interest clear immediately,” Abraham told the club’s official website.

“Roma is a club that deserves to be fighting for titles and trophies. I’ve had the experience of winning major trophies and I want to be in those competitions again – so I want to help this team to achieve that and get to the level where Roma should be.

“It’s a massive honour to be the No. 9 at this club and I just can’t wait to get started and to help the team.”
