PSG captain reacts to Chelsea reunion with former boss Thomas Tuchel, confirms Blues talks

Paris Sant-Germain star Marquinhos has shot down talk he was close to joining Chelsea over the summer.

He hinted that Chelsea made an approach for him over the summer, but PSG rejected any prospect of the Brazilian moving away by shutting down talks.

The 27-year-old is an important cog in Mauricio Pochettino’s all-star PSG team, marshalling the defensive line while wearing the captain’s armband for the French giants.

European champions Chelsea, meanwhile, were on the lookout for a new centre-back this summer – with Marquinhos giving the impression that Thomas Tuchel’s side did enquire about him, an approach that was strongly rebuffed by PSG.

He told Le Parisien: “No! It wasn’t even an offer. In fact, the club blocked talks straight away. It shows the faith they have in me.

“It is an honour for a club like PSG to put such faith in me. The fact that others are interested in me means I am doing well.

“It gives me the motivation to go on, boost my training sessions and play even better. Paris and PSG are the only things on my mind.”

Manchester United open talks with Antonio Conte as Solskjaer’s Old Trafford future hangs in balance

Manchester United have reportedly opened talks with Antonio Conte, but the Red Devils are yet to make a decision over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future.

The Norwegian coach is under pressure after suffering a 5-0 loss against Liverpool on Sunday.

According to multiple reports in Italy, the Premier League giants have made preliminary contacts with Conte, who is open to taking over at the Old Trafford while the season is ongoing.

A few months back, Fabrizio Romano reported Conte didn’t want to accept a new job before the end of the campaign, but the former Inter, Juventus and Chelsea coach seems now open to move to Old Trafford.

According to the transfer expert, there isn’t an official offer on the table for Conte as Manchester United have yet to make a decision over Solskjaer’s future.

The economic agreement between the club and the Italian coach doesn’t seem to be an issue, but until a formal offer is on the table, nothing can be given for granted.

The contract of the former striker at Old Trafford expires in June 2024 and the Premier League giants’ board is considering whether or not to sack the 48-year-old.

The Premier League giants face Tottenham, Atalanta and Manchester City before the November break.

Under-fire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer set for another job after leaving Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could take over as Norway manager if he gets sacked by Manchester United after a short break, reports suggest.

Jan Aage Fjortoft says Solskjaer could be the next Norway boss when current head coach Stale Solbakken calls it a day.

But Fjortoft added that his compatriot will first take some time off between jobs.

The former Middlesbrough ace tweeted: “Ole G [Solskjaer] will, as any manager, eventually get the sack.

“Then he will take some time off. After that he will succeed Solbakken (when he says enough is enough) as Norwegian National Coach.”

Thomas Partey regrets Arsenal move as former teammate Saul reconsiders decision to join Chelsea on permanent basis

There are rports that Thomas Partey is ‘unhappy’ at Arsenal as the club are not involved in any competition in Europe.

That’s according to Fichajes, who claim the midfield thinks it was a ‘mistake’ to swap Atletico Madrid for the Gunners.

Former Atleti teammate Saul Niguez is also said to be reconsidering his decision to join Chelsea.

And both men are finding life in the Premier League ‘very tough’.

Meanwhile, Arsenal legend Ian Wright has called on Partey and other Gunners’ midfielders to help out main striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with more goals.

Partey scored his first goal for the club against Aston Villa on Friday night, before Emile Smith Rowe grabbed Arsenal’s third.

And Wright, 57, wants to see more contributions like these moving forward, including from the likes of wideman Bukayo Saka.

He told Premier League Productions: “You could see how disappointed [the fans were] when he hit the post just a couple of minutes earlier.
