Half-Time Report: Chelsea lead Spurs… Chelsea 2-0 Tottenham

Chelsea are ahead of Tottenham at the break in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final at Stamford Bridge.

Comical Ben Davies own goal doubled the lead for the Blues before half-time as Antonio Conte endures testing return to his former club.

Hakim Ziyech’s in-swinging free-kick, Japhet Tanganga headed the ball clear but it cannoned off Davies’ head and into the net!

Kai Havertz had earlier scored for Chelsea in the fifth minute of the game. Spurs gave the ball away poorly at the back and Marcos Alonso intercepted on the left-hand side.

He fed Kai Havertz in the box and his close-range shot looked to be going in – but Spurs centre back Davinson Sanchez could only divert the ball into his own net from underneath his own crossbar.

Tottenham are definitely missing Eric Dier as it has been a mess at the back for Antonio Conte’s side.

Chelsea have enough talent on the bench to make it even more difficult later in the game.

And Lukaku will want to make up for his missed chance.

Hugo Lloris might want to think about faking a cough and shooting off home before this gets out of hand.

REVEALED: Why Real Madrid pulled out of move for Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger

Reports in Spain claim that Real Madrid are no longer in the running to sign Antonio Rudiger after talks with the out-of-contract Chelsea defender hit a stumbling block.

Rudiger, 28, recently entered the final six months of his current Stamford Bridge deal and does not appear close to an extension, having rejected an offer worth £140,000 per week from the Blues.

The Germany defender’s representatives are therefore understood to have opened talks with a number of clubs over a potential free transfer next summer, including Bayern Munich, PSG and Juventus as well as Real.

The latter were seemingly frontrunners to secure his signature next summer, but Spanish outlets El Chiringuito and Marca are now reporting, via the Daily Mail, that talks between the two parties have failed to progress.

Rudiger is said to be demanding £200,000 per week at the Bernabeu, a hefty salary Los Blancos chiefs are not prepared to hand him.

He is not helped by the fact the club are more than happy with their current defensive partnership of David Alaba and Eder Militao, whom they believe form the best centre-back pairing in European football.

As a result, Rudiger will not be heading to Madrid when his Chelsea deal expires in the summer, leaving the likes of Bayern, PSG and Juve in the driving seat.

The former Roma and Stuttgart man has spent the last four-and-a-half years at Stamford Bridge, featuring 166 times and winning the FA Cup, Europa League and Champions League.

Speaking about his contractual situation on Tuesday, Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel said: “I cannot predict the future and I don’t know if (Rudiger’s) representatives are talking to other clubs or not.

“Of course, it is possible, it is January and he hasn’t signed a new contract with us yet but we are in communication with him, the club is in dialogue with his people.”

Ivory Coast football star dies of food poisoning

Ivory Coast star Oussou Konan has died aged 32 after an alleged poisoning while on holiday in his homeland.

The former Al Ahly striker died in his hometown of Yopougon with reports suggesting the cause of death was poisoning, according to KingFut.

Konan also played for Misr El-Makkasa, and El-Gaish during his career.

He started out with Ivorian giants Africa Sports before heading to Egypt in 2010 where he signed for Misr El-Makkasa from Tunisian side Espérance Sportive de Tunis.

Konan managed 11 goals in 27 which attracted the attention of Egyptian giants Al-Ahly.

They forked out around £160,000 in July 2012.

However, he only played six times and failed to make a huge impact due to the suspension of the Egyptian Premier League.

But Konan was part of the 2012 CAF Champions League winning side.

And he even scored in a 1-1 away draw at Berekum Chelsea which saw the club through to the knockout stage.

After struggling for game time, Konan went on loan to Saudi outfit Al Hajer.

And that came before a permanent move to Turkish side Gaziantep in the summer of 2013.

That came before a spell with Finnish giants HJK Helsinki where he won a domestic double in 2014.

Atletico Madrid identify Chelsea star as Diego Simeone’s “favourite” choice to replace Newcastle-bound Kieran Trippier

Chelsea star Cesar Azpilicueta is reportedly Diego Simeone’s “favourite” choice to replace Kieran Trippier, who looks set to join Newcastle.

The Chelsea defender’s future is in doubt as his current deal is set to expire in the summer. Thiago Silva penned an extension on Monday, but Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen are also out of contract in June.

Reports in England claim Newcastle have agreed a £12million deal to sign Atletico Madrid full-back Trippier.

Spanish outlet AS are reporting that Azpilicueta is Simeone’s “favourite” choice to replace the Englishman.

The report adds that the Chelsea star is “already being considered” by Atletico Madrid. They are willing to pay a fee for him this month.
