Andreas Christensen undergoes Barcelona medical today

Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen is undergoing the second phase of his Barcelona medical today, reports claim.

According to The Sun, he is set to pen a five-year deal with the LaLiga giants after turning down a new contract at Chelsea.

Christensen, 25, is claimed to have passed the first phase of his medical last week.

And according to Spanish paper Sport, he will undergo part two this afternoon.

They add that his agent will arrive in Barcelona between now and Thursday to formally complete the agreement.

Christensen’s talks with Chelsea broke down earlier this season, opening the door for Barca to swoop.

Bayern Munich had also been courting the Dane’s signature, but Xavi and Co have won the race after upping their offer last week.

Premier League teams were also interested, although Christensen reportedly snubbed them out of respect for Chelsea.

Christensen is understood to have agreed a deal worth around £95,000-a-week with Barcelona.

The centre-back has made 153 appearances for the Blues, including 26 this season in all competitions.

Barcelona are hoping to spend big on Erling Haaland this summer to play up front next term – while looking for bargains and free transfers to improve the rest of their side.

Christensen could be joined in Catalonia by team-mate Cesar Azpilicueta, who is also being linked with a free transfer to Barca.

While AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie is also expected to join up in the summer.

Former Arsenal star joins Ukraine army to fight against Russia

Former Arsenal defender Oleg Luzhny has returned to Ukraine to fight for his country against Russia.

And he insisted Ukraine will not give up in their fight to protect themselves.

The 53-year-old’s nation was invaded by Vladimir Putin’s army last month with war breaking out.

Boxers Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko, Oleksandr Usyk and Vasiliy Lomachenko have all enlisted to help the heroic defensive effort by Ukraine.

Footballer Svyatik Artemenko, Sheriff Tiraspol’s Ukrainian manager Yuriy Vernydub, Olympians Dmytro Pidruchny and Dmytro Mazurchuk as well as tennis ace Sergiy Stakhovsky are also in their homeland and joined the army.

And as the violence and destruction continues, Luzhny put his coaching career on pause to play his part.

He told the Mirror: “Like all devoted Ukrainians, now I’m in Ukraine, with all our people defending our motherland. I joined the Territorial Defence Force.

“The situation is very tense, the siren sounds three or four times a day, also at night.

“People have to frantically dash to bomb shelters, women with small children, who don’t understand what is happening, they are terrified.

“Entire cities and towns are shelled and being destroyed, people are left without gas, electricity, water and food.

“But our nation stands united like never before.

“We will not give up, everyone is trying to assist in the best possible way.”

Luzhny spent four years at Highbury between 1999 and 2003, making 110 appearances and winning the Premier League and FA Cup before joining Wolves for one season.

He signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2003, spending a single season at the Molineux.

He has had messages of support from ‘very, very worried’ former Gunners team-mates Patrick Vieira and Gilles Grimandi – while others have not been able to contact him after he got a new phone number.

Kai Havertz labels teammates ‘special player’ after Chelsea win over Burnley

Kai Havertz has labelled Reece James a ‘special player’ after the wing-back’s goal and assist in Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Burnley on Saturday.

After a goalless first half, James opened the scoring with a low strike into the corner, before Havertz headed in a cross from Christian Pulisic.

Just minutes later, Havertz got his second when he bundled in James’ cross, and the scoring was wrapped up by Pulisic not long after the third.

“He’s a special player for us, a very important player for us,” Havertz said of James, via BBC Sport.

“He’s a full-back, but he also scores. He’s a great character and a very good player.”

On scoring twice himself, Havertz added: “It’s always very difficult when you don’t score, but these goals help. Sometimes you have to wait a bit to get them. I always want more and more.

“We’re very pleased. The result is very good for us,” Havertz continued.

“We needed these goals and the clean sheet. It was difficult, especially in the first half. It was important that we scored early in the second half.

“We switched our formation a little bit [at half-time] – I think that helped us. Reece’s goal was brilliant and it helped us a lot. We’re pleased about these four goals.

“The confidence is there. I think after the loss in the Carabao Cup final it was a little bit hard to come back, but we showed great character in the FA Cup.

“The first six months of the year were hard, especially the winter when we had a lot of injuries. We’re on a good run again and we want to keep that going.”

Roman Abramovich hands potential Chelsea buyers two crucial conditions to acquire club

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has handed two conditions to the west London club’s potential buyers, stating that they must be prepared to continue to invest in the squad and to redevelop Stamford Bridge, according to reports.

Last week, the 55-year-old announced that he has put Chelsea up for sale, claiming that the decision is in the club’s ‘best interest’.

Abramovich has opted to sell Chelsea following the threat of sanctions from the UK Government, which has already targeted Everton investor Alisher Usmanov.

It’s understood that the Russian billionaire, who bought Chelsea for £140 million in 2003, has set a £3 billion asking price.

According to Sky Sports, up to 10 parties are considering submitting an offer to buy Chelsea, with American investment bank The Raine Group tasked with handling the sale.

But the report claims that Abramovich is also keen to find the right buyer for Chelsea, as he wants the new owners to continue to replenish the squad with new signings, as well as oversee a revamp of the stadium.

The cost to redevelop Stamford Bridge is likely to be a key factor in negotiations between Abramovich and Chelsea’s new owners as it’s estimated that the project would cost in the region of £2.2bn.

Chelsea had acquired planning permission to build a 60,000-seat stadium on the site of Stamford Bridge, but Abramovich shelved those plans in 2018 after he suffered delays in the renewal of his visa to enter the UK.
