Championship club make shock move for Chelsea hero Diego Costa

Former Chelsea striker Diego Costa could make a shock move to Birmingham in the summer.

Former Barcelona ace Maxi Lopez is keen to invest in the Championship outfit.

Lopez is reportedly part of a consortium, alongside Christian Codoma and Paul Richardson, looking to purchase a stake in the club.

And if the takeover attempt is successful, it could open the door for some huge signings.

The three bidders are keen to revamp the current squad by creating a team with an effective blend of youth and experienced players.

According to The Mirror, Lopez has already created a list of potential targets and Costa, who has been a free agent since leaving Atletico Mineiro, is included

Revealed: Crucial reason why Chelsea withdrew from Erling Haaland move

Chelsea withdrew from the race to sign Erling Haaland because they had DOUBTS about his ability to play in the Premier League, according to reports.

The 21-year-old will officially become a Manchester City player on July 1 after the club activated his £51million release clause.

But Pep Guardiola’s Premier League leaders weren’t the only side sniffing around the goalscoring sensation.

Chelsea too spent time monitoring Haaland, who has scored a whopping 85 goals in 88 games for Borussia Dortmund.

But reporting back to club bosses, Blues scouts raised concerns about Haaland’s ability to be as prolific in the Premier League, according to ESPN.

The report states there were doubts as to whether his style of play would be suited to playing in the Prem.

Haaland feeds off space in behind to run in to, something that is more frequently offered to strikers in the Bundesliga.

The Norway international was afforded the room to utilise his incredible raw pace and power to maximum effect.

But less space for attackers in the Premier League led to doubts about his ability to wreak as much havoc on defenders.

And Chelsea weren’t the only club to raise their concerns about Haaland.

ESPN claim Barcelona were not convinced by his “personality and character,” while Real Madrid had reservations regarding his injury record.

Los Blancos were still keen on a move, but were ultimately beaten to the signing by City.

Chelsea opted to sign Romelu Lukaku in a club record £97.5m deal last summer.

But the Belgian striker has underwhelmed on his return to Stamford Bridge, scoring just seven goals in 24 Premier League appearances.

That’s another poor start from the hosts, but credit to Mason Mount. The Blues switch play well and the England star feeds Reece James on the right.

The defender then cuts inside and feeds it back to Mount, who curls expertly past Meslier.

Finally persistence pays off for Chelsea’s striker Romelu Lukaku.

He seemed to take too long to get the shot away.

The Blues win the ball high up the pitch and Hakim Ziyech is set to run at Leeds defence. He feeds the big striker who takes a bit too long with the ball at his feet, but still manages to add a third for the Blues at Elland Road.

Lukaku left footed shot from the centre of the box to the high centre of the goal.

Another wonderful goal to savour for the Blues, but yet more misery for the hosts.

As Chelsea come forward, there are player overloads all over the pitch.

A lovely flick from Mount opens up a chance for Pulisic, who curls home a glorious strike with his left into the bottom corner.

Callum Hudso-Odoi, Eddie Nketiah set to switch from England to Ghana

Callum Hudson-Odoi and Eddie Nketiah are set to switch from England to Ghana before the 2022 World Cup.

That is according to Football London, who report that the two players have been convinced to link up with the African nation, for which they are eligible to play.

Arsenal ace Nketiah, 22, leads the Three Lions’ Under-21 all-time scoring list with 16 goals in 17 appearances but has never played for the senior team.

Chelsea star Hudson-Odoi, 21, on the other hand, has registered three senior caps. They all came in 2019 when Gareth Southgate dealt with an injury crisis.

A Fifa rule change in 2020 allows players with no more than three international appearances to change their allegiance if those caps came before their 21st birthday.

Therefore, both players can complete the move, which would boost their hopes of playing in the winter’s World Cup in Qatar

(Watch incredible miss on video) David Luiz misses sitter in Brazilian derby

Former Chelsea star David Luiz went viral after hilariously missing a sitter in the last kick of a Brazilian derby.

Luiz has returned to Brazil for Flamengo after leaving the Gunners last year and wasted a golden chance to equalise for his team against rivals Botafogo, who won 1-0 at the Estadio Nacional.

The defender was unmarked in the penalty area and was teed up with a perfect pass from the left flank during the seventh minute of stoppage time.

But the 35-year-old veteran ballooned his strike wildly over the bar with an awful shot that saw him falling to the ground in dismay just moments later.

Antonio Conte fires back at Jurgen Klopp

Antonio Conte has said Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp must learn to handle his emotions better after accusing him of seeking an “alibi” by criticising Tottenham’s style after earning a 1-1 draw at Anfield.

Saturday’s result was a major blow to Liverpool’s hopes of regaining the Premier League title and Klopp voiced his frustration afterwards saying “I don’t like this kind of football” when referring to Spurs’ counter-attacking approach, while adding it is a “game-plan [which] works for these games but they’re still fifth.”

Klopp rowed back from that position on Monday, claiming it was “wrong” but Conte had his say when facing reporters on Tuesday ahead of Thursday’s north London derby against Arsenal.

“We analysed the game the day after and for sure if there was a team that deserved to win and had the chances created to win, it was Tottenham not Liverpool,” Conte said.

“I think Klopp understood that he gained one point, not lost two points. At the same time, I think Jurgen is an intelligent person, he is very clever, he was a bit frustrated after the game. But at the same time, that for a top coach, for every coach it is important to learn that after the game, be focused on your team, not on your opponent.

“If you focus on your opponent, it means you want to find an excuse or an alibi because your job didn’t [go] well or something was wrong.”
