Official: PSG confirm Mauricio Pochettino’s departure, identify likely successor

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser al-Khelaifi has confirmed Mauricio Pochettino’s exit from the club.

Earlier this month, the Parisians reportedly decided to part ways with the Frenchman by mutual consent.

Despite leading PSG to Ligue 1 glory last season, Pochettino came under pressure when his side were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid in the Round-of-16.

Club officials are still waiting for their first Champions League title, but they do not believe that the former Spurs boss will be the person to deliver it.

And as a result, they already have his replacement lined up.

Al-Khelaifi has revealed that the club’s top target is Nice manager Christophe Galtier.

In an interview with Le Parisien, he said: “We have a shortlist of coaches, we are in talks with Nice, this is not a secret.”

The two clubs have reportedly been in talks for the past few days and a deal will likely be struck this week.

Galtier joined Nice at the beginning of last season shortly after leading Lille to the Ligue 1 title.

While he is the priority for PSG, the club have also considered Zinedine Zidane and Jose Mourinho as potential alternatives.

Gareth Bale pays surprise visit to potential new club’s training base

Gareth Bale visited Cardiff’s training base where it is believed he held transfer talks with manager Steve Morison.

The Wales legend is currently a free agent after confirming his departure from Real Madrid.

And rumours of a sensational return to his place of birth has since followed with Bale on the hunt for a new side.

It comes after he led Wales to a first World Cup in 64 years following their 1-0 play-off final triumph over war-torn Ukraine.

In a recent development, the winger spoke with Cardiff boss Morison and discussed his future, according to WalesOnline, via The Sun.

They claim Bale was undertaking physio at the club’s Vale of Glamorgan HQ with the FAW’s medical staff.

Furthermore manager Morison, whose players were in attendance for pre-season, spoke to the player himself.

Bale has just returned from a getaway but it set to jet off again soon until July 16.

But it believed he will confirm his next move “in the coming days” instead of doing so when he lands home.

When Bale was asked about his options at club level this month, he grinned and said: “I’ve got loads”.

MLS clubs have already declared an interest in the forward but it is believed Tottenham are not considering him for a third spell in North London.

Another of Bale’s ex-clubs Southampton have also been linked with Wales’ record goalscorer.

Carlos Tevez secures appointment as club manager, heaps praise on his “model” Antonio Conte

New Rosario Central boss Carlos Tevez said he would like to sign Juventus target Angel Di Maria, while he labelled ex-Bianconeri coach Antonio Conte his “model.”

The former Argentina forward started his first managerial role on Tuesday just 17 days after retiring from playing.

And asked at his presentation whether he would be interested in signing compatriot and free agent Di Maria, who was born in Rosario and played for Central’s youth team, Tevez told reporters: “I can’t talk about this. I barely speak to my wife due to the amount of work I have!

“I would like him [Di Maria] to come, who wouldn’t? When the situation calms down, I will call him and ask what he wants to do.

“We know what he’s like: it would be very positive for the squad, for the experience he would bring to the guys.”

Tevez won the Champions League at Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson and reached another final at Juve with Massiliamo Allegri, while he also played for Roberto Mancini at Manchester City.

However, despite only spending 12 months with Conte in Turin, he singled out the Tottenham Hotspur boss for special praise. He added: “Conte is my model, he taught me a lot at Juventus.

“I will try to make my team play a little – even half as well – as his teams play.”

Tevez spent two seasons in Serie A with Juve, where we won back-to-back Serie A titles and a Coppa Italia. He scored 50 goals in 95 appearances across all competitions.
