Liverpool enter transfer war with Arsenal, others over ex-Chelsea academy star

Liverpool are keeping tabs on Crystal Palace star and Arsenal target Marc Guehi during the summer transfer window.

The Reds have joined the race for Guehi, with a fee of £75million mooted for his suitors.

Newcastle are believed to have already opened talks for the centre-back this summer.

While the Gunners and Tottenham are also said to be interested in the England international.

Liverpool plot move for Arsenal, Manchester United target

Liverpool are keen on signing Real Sociedad and Spain star Martin Zubimendi, according to reports.

The midfielder, who has previously been linked with a move to Arsenal and Manchester United, has been named as a top target for the Merseyside club.

According to The Athletic, the Reds are exploring a deal for Zubimendi.

However, the deal is said to be difficult with the 25-year-old’s release clause having to be paid in full.

Zubimendi is understood to have a £51.7million release clause in his Sociedad contract, a hefty fee to cover in one.

However, that would only become relevant if the Spanish side are unwilling to negotiate a lower fee for their star man.

Another stumbling block for Liverpool could be convincing Zubimendi to make the switch to the Premier League.

The Athletic’s report claims that other suitors such as Arsenal and Barcelona have failed to convince the Spain international to jump ship.

Chelsea top target move suffers setback

Manchester City star Julian Alvarez’s move to Atletico Madrid could reportedly be off due to personal terms.

Alvarez was expected to complete a move to Atletico in a transfer worth £81.5million.

The 24-year-old has two years left to run on his contract at the Etihad but is keen to gain more playing time.

However, the striker could find himself remaining in Manchester for the time being.

This is because there has been a disagreement between the Argentina international’s salary and contract length, as reported by GiveMeSport.

It is claimed that Atleti are working hard to try and resolve this issue.

Manchester United star sends message to fans after undergoing surgery

Manchester United summer signing Leny Yoro has sent fans a message after undergoing surgery on a metatarsal injury that will keep him out for three months.

Erik ten Hag’s worst fears over his new £52million centre-half were confirmed following the op, which took place after the club’s return from their US tour.

Yoro, 18, suffered the damage in only his second appearance for his new club – a 2-1 friendly defeat to Arsenal in Los Angeles.

That surgery on Yoro’s left foot took place on Monday and United said in a statement that it had been a success, but also that it would take the defender three months before he returned to fitness.

Yoro later issued a statement of his own via social media.

He wrote: “This is not the start I wanted, but that’s football… The operation went well. Thank you for your many messages of support.

“Now, time for patience and rehabilitation work. See you soon, stronger”.

Alongside this message, Yoro posted a photo of himself giving a thumbs up gesture from a hotel bed.

He also shared an image featuring a quote from the Bible, which read: “Jesus replied, You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”

Chelsea new signing injured

Chelsea signing Estevao Willian has been injured, according to reports from Brazil.

The Blues landed Estevao from Palmeiras following a deal that could rise to £52million.

But the winger won’t move to Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2025 when he turns 18 and thus he is still playing for Palmeiras.

According to Trivela, however, the Brazil Under-17 international appears to have been injured and not much is being said about it.

It is unknown if Estevao is undergoing intensive treatment, if he has already started to work with the ball or even if he can play.

Maresca breaks silence on Chelsea’s “very high” defensive line exploited by Real Madrid speedsters

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca says he “trying to solve” his side’s “habit” of conceding too many goals after a 2-1 defeat by a young Real Madrid side in Charlotte, in the final match of their United States tour.

Chelsea conceded 63 goals under Mauricio Pochettino in the league last season, an unwanted club record during the Premier League era.

Chelsea’s high line was constantly exposed by Real Madrid’s speedsters. One ball in behind and bang, the Spaniards were through.

Maresca said he addressed the “very high” defensive line with his players in one of his first meetings, which he said is a habit “from last season”.

That tendency not to press with intensity and allow quality players – like those at Celtic, Manchester City and Madrid on this tour – time on the ball to pick them off has continued.

Maresca said: “One of my first meetings with the squad was about the amount of goals we conceded last year with the defensive line very high.

“We are not working on defensive lines so high. It’s a habit from last year, or years ago, I don’t know.

“We are trying to drop the defensive line a little bit, usually about four or five metres, just to have some advantage.

“Last year, we already conceded many goals with this problem. Hopefully we can solve it very soon.”

The former Leicester manager continued by explaining it is not an issue with his defence, which featured Reece James, Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile and Malo Gusto, but the team as a whole.

The Italian has also been attempting to implement his new system and style which has seen several individual mistakes leading directly to goals conceded in the United States.

Maresca has previously admitted to using his matches as “training sessions”, without time to do tactical work in between all the travel and the five matches in 14 days in the high heat of the United States.

That instability must be resolved, he says, before Chelsea face Manchester City in their Premier League opener.
