Chelsea fans express delight as Frank Lampard introduces his own brand of football

Reports in England reveal Frank Lampard has delighted Chelsea fans by seemingly introducing his own brand of Sarriball to the club.

Supporters went wild for “Frankieball” during Wednesday’s 5-3 win over RB Salzburg as a fine move from the back resulted in Christian Pulisic winning a penalty, according to the Sun.

The likes of Kurt Zouma, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic played key roles in cleverly moving the ball around the defence before launching it into Pulisic’s path.

Sarriball was of course the brainchild of former Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri, who tried to implement a short, fast passing game during his season at Stamford Bridge.

It didn’t quite go according to plan though, with the lack of an attacking central midfielder and top striker preventing Chelsea from reaching the same levels as Sarri’s previous Napoli side.

Despite that, there were occasions when the Italian’s team produced some magic football, and it culminated in an impressive third-place finish and 4-1 victory over Arsenal in the Europa League final.

Lampard replaced Sarri at the helm when the latter decided to return to Serie A with Juventus.

But Super Frank appears to have been clever enough to not entirely ditch his predecessor’s style.

Similar to Carlo Ancelotti’s attitude after replacing Sarri at Napoli, Lampard seems happy for his team to control possession and build from deep.

But unlike pure Sarrismo, the ex-Derby don has also instructed his players to go long when appropriate.

Kovacic produced the magic pass which landed perfectly for Pulisic, and it’s highly likely he probably would have instead held on to the ball had Sarri still be in charge.

Fans were thrilled with the footballing feast on display, with one declaring: “Frankieball has arrived.”

Another said: “Credit goes to Sarri. Lampard, no matter how good he is as a manager, could not have had them playing this beautiful football in such a short period of time.”

One wrote: “Kovacic in a double pivot should be illegal.”

Another added: “Sorry to disappoint you, the boys still got the Sarriball system in them, it won’t go away in a year and we still got Jorginho doing his thing… Napoli still played Sarriball last season even with Ancelotti.”
