Chelsea legend likens Blues youngster to Manchester United legend David Beckham

Joe Cole has given his verdict on Reece James after the youngster came off the bench to score the equaliser in Chelsea’s 4-4 draw with Ajax.

James handed Chelsea comeback draw against Ajax in an incredible night of football at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues were 4-1 down at one point but the game turned when Daley Blind and Joel Veltman were sent off and Chelsea awarded a penalty in the space of a minute.

With the Dutch side down to nine men, James hammered home an equaliser after a pile up in the box.

The Sun report that BT Sport pundits Rio Ferdinand, Robin van Persie and Chelsea legend Cole were all in praise of the defender’s techniques.

But Cole offered some insight, having trained with James as a Blue.

The Chelsea legend BT Sport: “When I was playing in America, I came around to train with the kids. We were having shooting session and the kids’ shooting was erratic, but James was on the money, on the money, whipping crosses, it was like watching Beckham.”

The English star became Chelsea’s youngest ever scorer in the Champions League at 19 years 332 days old.

He has gone above Arjen Robben – who scored against CSKA Moscow in 2004 at the age of 20 years 284 days old – in the record books.
