Chelsea new signing Nicolas Jackson reveals what Sadio Mane told him about Pochettino his coach at Southampton

Chelsea new boy Nicolas Jackson said that he received advice from Sadio Mane before moving to Stamford Bridge.

The striker revealed that his Senegalese compatriot, who used to play under the Blues’ boss Mauricio Pochettino at Southampton, gave him encouraging words about working with the Argentine manager.

Yesterday, Jackson’s £32million move from Villarreal was confirmed to make him the club’s second summer signing after £53m RB Leipzig man Christopher Nkunku.

Speaking with Chelsea’s website, the 22-year-old said: “I spoke to Sadio Mane about him and he spoke very highly of him [Pochettino], he said amazing things about him.

“Sadio told me the manager is going to help me a lot to improve and do well if I listen to what he has to tell me, so that is exactly what I’m going to do.”

Jackson joins the Blues after a ruthless end to the 2022-23 season, in which he scored nine goals in eight games – from just 12 shots on target.

He brings more than just goals, though. Jackson was once even dubbed the “Senegalese Neymar” for his dribbling talents and standing at 6ft2in, he is adept at link-up play.

His performances were enough to win him a place in his country’s Qatar World Cup squad, where he came on as a substitute in their first fixture against the Netherlands.

For his showings in May, he won La Liga’s Player of the Month award.

The 22-year-old, who was born in the Gambia, penned an eight-year deal at Chelsea.

He said: “I am a guy that always wants more, but I always thank God for what he gave me. I’m always grateful and know how lucky I am to be able to do what I do, playing football for teams like this and in stadiums like this, but I always want to make the most of what I have been given, I always want to do better.

“I always give my best and give 100 per cent and always help the team, because I want to achieve things as a person and as a group.

“I always want more achievements, so hopefully if I work hard here those things will come and we will achieve things together at Chelsea, with the support of my team-mates and the fans.”
