Chelsea set to offer Tammy Abraham, other starlet new bumper contracts

Reports in England claim Chelsea are preparing a new bumper contract that could more than double his £50,000-a-week wages.

Striker Abraham scored his first Chelsea goals in the 3-2 victory over Norwich City at the weekend after being backed by head coach Frank Lampard.

According to the Telegraph, Chelsea were already planning to open negotiations over a new deal with Abraham before his brace and the 21-year-old’s goals will have only strengthened the club’s desire to secure his long-term future.

Abraham still has three years to run on the contract he signed before going on loan to Swansea City in the summer of 2017.

Since then, he scored 26 goals on loan at Aston Villa to fire the Midlands club to promotion from the Championship and has taken Chelsea’s number nine shirt this term.

With Callum Hudson-Odoi out injured, Abraham is currently the lowest earner in the Chelsea first team after Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek signed new contracts over the summer.

Mount signed a deal worth around £77,000 a week, while Loftus-Cheek is now earning over £150,000 a week after agreeing his latest contract.

Hudson-Odoi will earn over £100,000 a week once his new five-year contract, which is close to being signed off, is confirmed.

Chelsea will most likely add a further two years to Abraham’s contract, to take his commitment to the club up to five years, and he may earn upwards of £100,000 a week, including bonuses.

Reece James is also set to earn a new contract over the coming months, having become Chelsea’s understudy to Cesar Azpilicueta at right-back.
