Everton sack Rafa Benitez after defeat to Norwich

Rafa Benitez has been sacked as Everton manager following the damaging defeat away to relegation rivals Norwich.

The Spaniard’s sacking was announced today via the club’s official website following a run of poor results over the past few months.

The Toffees sit 15th in the Premier League table, and fans are hoping more business can be done in the January transfer window to help save their season.

Pressure had been mounting on Benitez – at one stage they went seven Premier League games without a win for the club’s first time since 1999.

And the final blow was Everton’s calamitous display at Carrow Road which leaves the Merseysiders in serious trouble.

A club statement read: “Everton Football Club can confirm the departure of Rafael Benitez as First Team manager.

“Benitez, who joined Everton in June 2021, has left the Club with immediate effect.

“An update on a permanent replacement will be made in due course.”
