Former Inter president Massimo Moratti has expressed his apprehension over the Romelu Lukaku debacle as Juventus director Cristiano Giuntoli is ready to fly to London to meet Chelsea and continue talks for the striker, according to Football Italia.
The 30-year-old Belgian has remained at Cobham, Chelsea’s training facility, while the Blue are currently on tour in the United States. Lukaku will be keen to keep up his fitness levels up as his future becomes clearer in the coming weeks.
According to multiple reports, Lukaku has agreed to personal terms with the club. It’s just a matter of agreeing to a fee with Chelsea to bring the Belgian to Turin. According to Juvefc.com, the Blues could get around €40 million for Lukaku.
Juventus are keen to secure Lukaku on loan from Chelsea with an option to buy, but the Blues want a permanent sale.
However, Moratti is unimpressed with Romelu Lukaku’s decision to secretly negotiate with Juventus as the Nerazzurri worked on a deal with Chelsea.
The 30-year-old Belgian striker returned to the Blues at the start of this month following the end of his loan spell with the Nerazzurri, who were incredibly keen to set up a new deal.
After weeks of talks between Inter and Chelsea, a deal was being drawn up worth around €38-40m total, but everything suddenly collapsed after the Nerazzurri learnt that he had been in contact with Juventus since the days before the Champions League final.
Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli via Calciomercato.com, Moratti spoke about the Lukaku controversy.
“It’s okay that footballers have to economically maximize short careers, but from this to betraying the club where you had a good time, and which was close to you, is a bad thing and you just make a bad impression.”
Finally, Moratti discussed the work of Saudi Arabian clubs in the transfer window this summer.
“It’s something new and also scary because there’s no comparison with European clubs in terms of spending possibilities. They can offer 10 times more and close every conversation, everything changes in football.”
