Frank Lampard has revealed one of the things he loves about Tammy Abraham despite the fact that the Chelsea striker has not scored a single goal for the club at senior level.

The 21-year-old missed the decisive spot-kick in the penalty shootout defeat against Liverpool in the Super Cup showdown on Wednesday in Istabul.

However, Lampard has praised the England international’s desire to get off the mark for Chelsea and believes Abraham will be firing on all cylinders in no time.

‘Tammy is always desperate to score and that’s one of the things I love about him,’ Lampard said in his press conference on Friday. ‘He gets in positions regularly and that’s an indication of his character that he’s not hiding.’

Following his miss in Wednesday’s penalty shootout defeat, Abraham was the target of horrific vitriol on social media where a handful of users aimed racist abuse at the youngster, the Daily Mail report.

Chelsea have vowed to take ‘the strongest possible action’ against any supporter behind the racist comments while several of Abraham’s colleagues and loved ones have supported the striker before condemning the tweets.

Lampard branded Chelsea fans who racially abused Abraham following Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup loss to Liverpool ‘disgusting’.

‘Tammy is obviously disappointed – more than disappointed,’ Lampard said.

‘I am particularly disgusted by the so-called Chelsea fan. We saw the different ends of the spectrum on Wednesday evening. Tammy Abraham asked me to take the fifth penalty – he wanted stand up and be brave with the world watching.

‘At the same time, moments afterwards someone sitting behind a keyboard sends the most disgusting possible you can say.

‘I don’t know these platforms can allow this. It’s too easy. Something needs to be done as well as people completely changing their mindsets.

‘I’m so angry for Tammy and for us as a club. It’s not what we’re about. The club does a lot of work against discrimination at all levels. It’s a setback when these things happen.

‘I’ve spoken with Tammy. He’s a strong character. I love his character, he’s infectious around the place. He’s a confident boy around the pitch who wants to really do well for this football club.

‘He has an opportunity to do that this year. He’s a great young man and he’s experienced something there that is not right at all levels. It will be a test of that character that he shouldn’t need.’
