Half-Time Report: Rampant Liverpool tear Norwich apart in Premier League opener

Liverpool picked up where they left off last season after putting Norwich to the sword in the first half, leading 4-0 against the visitors.

Strikes from Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Divock Origi added to Grant Hanley’s own goal put the Reds in charge of this season’s Premier League opener.

The hosts were dominant down both flanks and clinical when it mattered as the last season’s runners-up scored via Grant Hanley’s own goal in the 7th minute. Divock Origi found space and time to get the ball out of his feet and showed a bit of trickery to take on Max Aarons before firing in a dangerous cross which Hanley sliced into his own net.

Salah was off the mark already, latching onto Roberto Firmino’s prodded through ball to coolly slot beyond Tim Krul for the second goal in the 19th minute.

The Canaries were caught napping again in the 28th as Salah whipped in an inch-perfect corner from the left for Virgil van Dijk to powerfully head into the ground past Tim Krul.

Towards the end of the first half, Origi was given far too much space in the box to nod in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s floated delivery from the right.
