“He is a leader”- Chelsea told to sign important striker for Enzo Maresca

After Chelsea have reportedly discontinued their move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, the west London giants have been urged to sign Ivan Toney this summer.

The Brentford striker faces an increasingly uncertain future at the G-Tech Community Stadium, with his contract set to expire in June 2025.

Chelsea and Arsenal have been linked with a move for Toney over the last two years, with the England striker widely expected to move on before the start of next season.

Toney has repeatedly stated his desire to join a top club in the near future and is about to enter the final year of his Brentford contract, which suggests that he could be sold this summer.

Speaking to Genting Casino, Teddy Sheringham said: “I think Ivan Toney would be a fantastic signing for anyone in London, Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea or even West Ham. Any one of those clubs would have him, he is a fantastic player who would enhance any of those sides I’ve just mentioned.

“I don’t know what’s happened to his form, but I think a player of his stature can give a lot to a football team. He is a leader who knows his position and is coming into the prime of his career. I think he would be a great asset.”

Meanwhile, according to Football Insider, Tottenham could sign Brentford star Ivan Toney for a “surprise” fee of just £40million this summer.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed Brentford are reluctantly ready to allow the England international to move on once the transfer window reopens next month.

The forward notched 20 goals in the 2022-23 season before his eight-month ban for breaking the FA’s gambling rules saw him miss the first half of the latest campaign.

Despite only scoring four goals in 17 appearances since his return in January, Toney’s stock remains high after he was included in England’s training squad ahead of the upcoming European Championships.
