Liverpool defence strongman Virgil van Dijk comments on Chelsea’s threat to Reds Premier League ambition

Virgil Van Dijk has reacted to whether Chelsea and Leicester City could be threats to Liverpool’s ambition to win the Premier League trophy this season.

Both clubs are both eight points behind the League leaders, with Manchester City dropping to the fourth position having lost to Liverpool on Sunday.

When quizzed by the Liverpool Echo, Van Dijk said: “Can Leicester and Chelsea challenge? I don’t know, that is something for you guys to put out in the media.

“They have been doing very well and even if you look at Sheffield United, they are a very difficult team to beat so I know, everyone here as well knows as well how difficult this year will be so we shouldn’t look too much at other teams.

“We should look at the teams we face, it was the champions and we did the job.

“Hopefully we can keep that focus for the next games.”
