Man United, Chelsea are most followed Premier League clubs on social media, but are behind two others in the world (Check the table here)

Manchester United and Chelsea are leading the way for the Premier League on social media.

However, neither team can hold a candle to La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, who are the only teams to boast a mammoth 200million followers on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

Zinedine Zidane’s Los Blancos also hold the extra distinction of containing the higher number of followers on each of the three social media powerhouses.

The Spanish giants have a record 13 Champions League wins which helps boost their worldwide appeal, with 33m fans on Twitter, 78.9m on Instagram, and 110.5m on Facebook at the time of writing.

In the ever-changing digital landscape, supporters are forever liking and unliking various club’s accounts.

But the top five clubs can be assured of their place on the overall list, bar adding or losing a few fickle fans over the course of a season.

Latest figures have proved that Man United are still holding appeal as the biggest English club despite poor fortunes on the pitch, report The Sun.

Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer’s side can also boast to be the only Premier League outfit to possess more than 100m followers on social media.

Juventus are the only Italian club to feature in the top-ten, with their online presence hugely benefited from signing Cristiano Ronaldo last year.

German and French champions Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain both make the top-ten as well, with 72.8m and 70m followers respectively.

Manchester City narrowly edged Liverpool to the Premier League title last season, but it is Jurgen Klopp’s Reds who still have the bragging rights online.

Spurs meanwhile are far behind the rest of the top six, with less than a third of the followers of north London rivals Arsenal.
