Manchester City make approach to sign Chelsea star

There are reports in England that Manchester City have made an initial approach to sign N’Golo Kante from Chelsea.

The Frenchman has been an influential member of the Stamford Bridge club’s first team, and Pep Guardiola is said to be shopping for a long-term successor to Fernandinho.

Meanwhile, Kante has been ousted from his favoured role at the heart of Chelsea’s midfield to accommodate Jorginho, who joined the Premier League last summer.

According to Goal, City have been monitoring Kante’s situation at Chelsea and have requested intermediaries to keep them up to date if the midfielder becomes unhappy at the club.

But the report claims that Chelsea’s two-window transfer ban has extinguished any hope of City being able to bring Kante to the Etihad Stadium this summer.

Instead, Metro reports, City have made Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodrigo Hernandez their priority target.
