Napoli President explains why he supported Chelsea at Europa League final

Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed the reason he supported Chelsea in the Europa League final which the Stamford Bridge club won, beating Arsenal by 4-1.

According to the Napoli President, he had know other reason other because of Maurizio Sarri and former Partenopei midfielder Jorginho.

De Laurentiis has been critical of Sarri after his departure from Naples over a row between the two Italians.

Sarri won the first major trophy of his professional career on Wednesday, almost a year after he found himself in the middle of a tug-of-war between Chelsea and De Laurentiis.

“Of course I was a Chelsea fan yesterday, I was supporting an Italian first of all,” the Partenopei President told reporters as cited by Football Italia.

“In fact [I was supporting] two. In addition to Sarri, there was also Jorginho. I immediately congratulated Sarri, also because taking him to Napoli was my decision, which at the time was opposed by everyone.

“The ultras wrote that I was wrong on all the walls of the city, but I’m used to it.

“I remember I was criticised when I gave Quagliarella to Juve and replaced him with Cavani, yet today everyone would take him back.”
