Pep Guardiola has jumped to the defence of Mikel Arteta’s touchline antics and reckons they’re jealous of his Arsenal side.

The Gunners boss has been criticised for his behaviour on the side of the pitch, notably in the draw with Newcastle and last weekend’s victory over Manchester United.

Guardiola said: “When you are top of the league they have to undermine you for another reason.

“They are doing that right now. I know quite well this situation.”

Asked whether it could be down from jealousy due to his side’s incredible season up to now, Guardiola said: “Absolutely.”
