Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Ian Maatsen will be part of his plans for the coming year after impressing during pre-season.

Maatsen spent last season on loan at Burnley and played a big part in Vincent Kompany’s side achieving promotion to the Premier League, but they will be unable to bring him back for another year.

After the Blues’ 1-1 draw with Newcastle in the US, Pochettino was asked about Maatsen and said: “So far he is in my plan.

“I am so happy with him, he is a player that can play in different positions. He is a clever player, I am so pleased with him so far.”
