REVEALED: Why Arsenal made shock last-minute swoop for David Luiz

Fresh reports have emerged as to why Arsenal made a last-minute swoop former Chelsea defender David Luiz.

The Brazilian made a sensational move from West London (home of Chelsea Football Club) to Arsenal on transfer Deadline Day.

The reports claim Gunners boss Unai Emery was linked with Daniele Rugani from Juventus for weeks as he attempted to thrash out a loan deal for the 25-year-old.

According to Tuttosport, Emery was unable to bring Rugani to England because Arsenal were not willing to agree to a clause in the loan arrangement that would almost guarantee they buy him next summer.

And it would have cost them around £28m to take him permanently if a number of conditions were met.

But transfer chief Raul Sanllehi, The Sun claim, was opposed to the idea.

Instead they opted to strike a deal with rivals Chelsea to pay £4m up front for Luiz with a further £4m next summer.

Rugani now looks set to wrap-up a switch to Roma this week.
