Thomas Tuchel desperate to sign “keen” Barcelona star for Bayern Munich

November 28th, 2023 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

There are reports that Bayern Munich are resolute in their desire to sign Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo.

Barcelona have invested their resources in building a young squad with significant potential going forward, but as their financial position squeezes them, they may have to worry about other major clubs turning the heads of their top players.

The 24-year-old Uruguayan has become talismanic for Xavi Hernandez and Barcelona, at times changing the results of games on his own from central defence.

Yet according to Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich are extremely interested in swiping the Barcelona defender from them.
Manager Thomas Tuchel is positive about a deal, while Araujo is also reportedly keen on a move to Bayern, who have been following the defender for two years.

Nevertheless, Barcelona plan on throwing a spanner in the works. According to the report, Bayern are unlikely to be able to pay over the odds for Araujo. He has a deal until 2026, and while the Blaugrana hold the cards as things stand, they will likely have to open talks over a wage rise for Araujo as early as next summer in order to avoid being put in an uncomfortable position.

Araujo has become a de facto leader within the Barcelona side, and the Blaugrana will be desperate to keep him. He too has spoken about his love for the club, regardless of the report.

Real Madrid turn attention to ex-Chelsea academy star

November 10th, 2023 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Real Madrid have turned their attention to Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala after the Los Blancos reportedly discontinued move for Kylian Mbappe.

The PSG forward is available on a free transfer next summer but would require a large signing-on fee and wages.

Musiala’s transfer would cost the club over €100m, then wages on top of that, but the 20-year-old would relish re-forming a partnership with friend and former England youth international teammate Jude Bellingham.

It wouldn’t solve Madrid’s need for a No. 9 striker, but they might end up scoring all their goals from midfield if these two played together regularly.

(Watch Video) Man United fans descend on goalkeeper Andre Onana after his howler during Bayern Munich clash

September 20th, 2023 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Andre Onana made a huge clanger to hand Bayern Munich the lead – and even Manchester United said they could not defend him.

The Red Devils had started the Champions League clash in Germany well and were holding the Bundesliga giants until disaster struck.

With 28 minutes on the clock, Leroy Sane cut in from the right and played a one-two with Harry Kane.

He then unleashed a first-time shot from 20 yards upon receiving it back but it was only low and central.

But instead of producing an easy save, United goalie Onana somehow managed to let the ball through his grasp and into the net.

Ex-United and Bayern midfielder Owen Hargreaves slammed Onana on TNT Sports at half time, saying: “”You just have to save that.

“I don’t know if he doesn’t get his feet set, but that ball just cannot go in. He knows straight away Onana.

“Sane doesn’t get a strong contact on it, he just has to keep that out.

“He is shaking his head, he is so frustrated. He knows he can’t make that mistake.”

Fellow pundit and United legend Rio Ferdinand added: “Nightmare scenario for Onana.

“Confident as you like with his feet. It’s a very very bad mistake.”

While Paul Scholes said: “He knows he’s made a big mistake.”

And even United fans said that they were unable to defend their stopper afterwards.

“OH MY GOD ONANA,” tweeted one while another wrote: “I can’t defend you.”

Along with crying laughing emojis, a fellow Red Devil said: “Better than De Gea. Andre Onana.”

“Onana is dreadful,” declared a fellow viewer, as another called his howler “absolutely shocking.”

“Onana is just a disgrace,” raged another, with another echoing those sentiments by tweeting: “What a clown.”

The long-serving David De Gea was allowed to leave United after his contract expired in June.

Manager Erik ten Hag moved to bring in Onana from Inter Milan due to the Cameroon international’s impressive footwork as well as shot-stopping abilities.

But the star got off to a nightmare start when he was chipped from the halfway line on his Old Trafford debut – and tonight’s howler will now also live long in the memory.

And it creates more headlines regarding the goalkeepers at Ten Hag’s disposal after the Dutchman named THREE on the bench for tonight’s game at Bayern.

Then, to make matters worse, United found themselves two goals down before the break as Serge Gnabry doubled the advantage.

And despite Rasmus Hojlund pulling one back after the restart, Harry Kane’s penalty soon restored Bayern’s two-goal advantage.

Chelsea disrupt Inter’s move for Bayern Munich star Benjamin Pavard after agreeing deal

August 26th, 2023 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Reports in Germany and Italy claim there is setback for Inter’s pursuit of Benjamin Pavard as Bayern Munich are not progressing in talks to sign his replacement Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea.

The clubs have shaken hands on a deal for Pavard, who has also agreed personal terms with the Nerazzurri and is not taking part in training with his teammates today.

That agreement is based on Bayern Munich first finding a replacement for Pavard, but Inter are rapidly losing patience with the Bundesliga side.

Sky Sports Deutschland report this evening that there has been another setback, because after a day of optimism that Bayern had finally found their man, the talks with Chelsea have hit problems.

It is suggested that Bayern Munich only want to sign Chalobah on loan with an option to buy, whereas Chelsea are holding out for a permanent sale.

The timing could be crucial here, because Inter are only ready to wait for another couple of days before turning to a different target.

The most likely is Torino centre-back Perr Schuurs, but another option is Japhet Tanganga of Tottenham Hotspur.

Notably, Inter want Pavard to play in central defence, whereas Bayern Munich are seeking a right-back to replace him.

It is also a dangerous game Bayern are playing, because the France international’s contract only runs to the end of the season.

Harry Kane scores, grabs assist on Bayern Munich Bundesliga debut as club put Werder Bremen to the sword

August 19th, 2023 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

England captain Harry Kane scored and set up a goal on his Bundesliga debut as champions Bayern Munich recorded a thumping win at Werder Bremen.

Kane swept a low right-footed effort past home goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka from 15 yards to double Bayern’s lead.

He had earlier assisted the first of Leroy Sane’s two goals with a deft clip over the top inside four minutes.

Mathys Tel rounded off a comfortable victory for Thomas Tuchel’s side late on.

It was a fine evening for Bayern and the club’s record signing Kane, who arrived in Bavaria to great fanfare but had a disappointing start with a 3-0 defeat to RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup.

Billed as the man to finally fill Robert Lewandowski’s boots over a year on from the prolific Poland striker’s switch to Barcelona, Kane expertly laid on the first goal for Sane.

His quick thinking sent the former Manchester City winger racing clear to roll a low effort into the bottom left corner.

A much-improved Bremen threatened after the break, but Kane dispatched the visitors’ second goal of the night, collecting Alphonso Davies’ precise pass before picking his spot and placing a low shot into the bottom left corner.

With Kane struggling with cramp, Bayern made several changes.

Substitute Thomas Muller teed up Sane’s second goal before Kane’s replacement, French teenager Tel, drove in a late fourth.

Bayern have won the previous 11 Bundesliga titles, but their points total of 71 last term, when they only just pipped a faltering Borussia Dortmund, was their lowest since 2010-11 when they finished third.

However, they have sought to remedy that close call with several new signings, including South Korea defender Kim Min-jae from Napoli.

Kane’s arrival has undoubtedly caught the imagination the most and provides the greatest cause for optimism they will be able to retain their domestic dominance while challenging again for the Champions League.

Prior to kick-off Tuchel had claimed the “Kane effect” would increase his team’s “chances of winning massively” and it is easy to understand why.

While England’s all-time top scorer was not at his sharpest, he still provided Bayern with a valuable focal point up front and interchanged superbly with the likes of Sane, Kingsley Coman and Jamal Musiala.

And despite being unable to convert several earlier opportunities to score, in trademark fashion he continued to drop deep, find spaces between defenders and finished unerringly when presented with the ball by Davies.

Revealed: How Thomas Tuchel stopped Bayern Munich from signing former Man United goalkeeper David De Gea

August 18th, 2023 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

There are reports in Germany David de Gea’s proposed move to Bayern Munich is off after former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel stopped the move.

Goalkeeper De Gea is unattached after leaving Manchester United this summer.

Though the Spaniard broadly performed well last season, he made a number of high-profile mistakes and manager Erik ten Hag reneged on a contract offer, allowing the stopper to leave for free when his deal ended.

German giants Bayern were said to be in talks over a deal for the 32-year-old free agent amid No 1 Manuel Neuer’s injury.

But Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg tweeted: ‘FC Bayern will also not sign David De Gea. It’s decided. Tuchel has vetoed it, especially since a return of Manuel Neuer is expected within the next few weeks.

“As reported: Tuchel was pushing for (Manchester City deputy Stefan) Ortega and had a phone call with him – but the deal is close to be off now.

“Talks with De Gea took place. He was willing to join FC Bayern. But it’s off now.”

Neuer, 37, is returning from a long-term injury after breaking his leg in a freak skiing accident.

His understudy Sven Ulreich was between the sticks for Bayern’s first game of the season, the German Super Cup against RB Leipzig, but Tuchel and Co lost 3-0.

Plettenberg claims that with Neuer set to return in a few weeks, Bayern are happy to make do with Ulreich until the veteran’s return to action.

It was also reported that De Gea’s wage demands were too high for Bayern, who lost last season’s first-choice ‘keeper Yann Sommer to Inter Milan, who replaced Andre Onana – himself the man who replaced De Gea at Old Trafford.

Real Madrid are also believed to have snubbed the chance to snap up De Gea for nothing, instead signing Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan to cover for Thibaut Courtois’ injury.

With Manchester City unwilling to sell Ederson’s backup Stefan Ortega to the Bavarian side, Plettenberg added that Bayern are in the ‘final stages’ of signing Maccabi Tel Aviv goalkeeper Daniel Peretz.

Harry Kane secures house in Germany ahead of Bayern Munich move

August 6th, 2023 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Bayern Munich are so confident of agreeing a deal for Tottenham superstar Harry Kane this summer that they have found him a house.

Accoding to The Daily Mirror, Bayern have reserved a luxury Bavarian villa in a “millionaire’s enclave” on the outskirts of the city.

If Kane is to take the German champions up on the offer, he will be neighbours with the club’s former chairman Karl-Heinz Rumenigge as well as ex-Manchester City star Leroy Sane.

Bayern are now ramping up pressure on Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to get the deal done.

The Bavarians are also holding talks with the star striker’s camp about reserving a number for the England captain and reserving him a seat in the dressing room.

Harry Kane flight cancelled as Tottenham dig in

July 28th, 2023 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Bayern Munich were due to fly into London today to hold important discussions with Tottenham over the potential sale of Harry Kane.

However, last night the Bundesliga champions cancelled their private jet and avoided face-to-face negotiations with Spurs chief Daniel Levy.

Kane has just a year left on his contract in north London with Spurs, who are desperate to keep their star man, but run the risk of losing him for free if he is not sold this summer.

Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Levy has rescheduled the meeting for early next week.

The Bundesliga champions have so far been turned down in their pursuit of the England captain, though Levy would rather sell him abroad with just one year left on his contract.

PSG are also interested but Kane does not want to move to the French capital, while The Guardian claim that Bayern are prepared to pay a club-record ÂŁ85.5million for the striker.

Bayern Munich ‘open talks’ with Chelsea target

July 28th, 2023 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Bayern Munich have reportedly opened talks with Brentford ahead of a potential move for David Raya.

According to Sky Sports the two clubs are in discussions but are yet to agree on a fee.

Chelsea might miss out on Brentford goalkeeper David Raya after Bayern Munich became interested in the Spaniard.

The Sun reports that Raya is set to leave Thomas Frank’s side after refusing to pen a new contract.

The Bees have already signed a replacement in Mark Flekken.

But Raya remains their player after seeing a move to Tottenham fall through.

Chelsea are still thought to be interested as they scour the market for Edouard Mendy’s replacement.

Earlier, reports claimed Bayern Munich were interested in free agent and former Manchester United star David de Gea in order to replace Yann Sommer.

Sommer is expected to move to Inter Milan as a replacement for Andre Onana.

According to The Times, the Bundesliga side are now looking at De Gea and his compatriot David Raya from Brentford as options.

Chelsea, Liverpool dealt Victor Osimhen transfer setback

June 29th, 2023 by Olasunkanmi Ibikunle

Chelsea and Liverpool have been handed blow over their move for Napoli star Victor Osimhen as Bayern Munich have reportedly turned to Napoi star Victor Osimhen after putting talks with Harry Kane on hold.

Tottenham have rejected a €70m offer for the England international, demanding €90m, so Bayern Munich have put talks on hold and consider making an offer for Osimhen.

Thursday’s printed edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport claims the Bavarians are unwilling to match Napoli‘s €180m asking price but will offer more than €100m.

Bayern would rather pay this fee for a 24-year-old striker than €90m for Kane, who will turn 30 on July 28. Talks between the club and the player’s entourage have already begun.

It remains to be seen if it will be enough for Napoli, who have reportedly rejected a €100m offer from PSG. Liverpool are also interested in Osimhen.

If the Nigeria international joins Bayern, he will reunite with Napoli defender Kim who has agreed to personal terms with the Bundesliga giants ahead of a transfer worth more than €50m.
